What if he’s started killing people and this is a result of that?

“You okay?” Blaise checks as he studies me.

I nod while biting my lip. “Is he okay?”

“Ryder?” Reece asks, and I nod. He wavers as he straightens his stance. “Honestly, not really. But hopefully, that’ll change.” He exits the bathroom, motioning for us to follow him.

Blaise watches me for a heartbeat of a second before extending his hand to me. Apparently, this is becoming our thing. Even before, we didn’t hold hands this much.

As I reach for his hand, he bites back what appears to be a smile.

“Why are you smiling?” I ask as we trail after Reece.

“It’s nothing.” He continues to wrestle back a smile.

“Liar. You don’t smile this much, Blaise Marielle, so tell me.” When he shakes his head with that damn smile still teasing his lips, I yank him to a halt. “Tell me,” I demand, kicking the bottom of my dress out of the way so I can move closer to him.

“It’s nothing,” he insists, his arms looping around my waist, the move slightly shaky. “It’s just that you took my hand this time without much forethought.”

“And that makes you smile?”

He nods sincerely. “Of course it does. I never thought you’d ever touch me again, let alone allow me to touch you. So, fair warning, every time you allow it to happen, you’ll have to see me smile.”

“Have to,” I mumble, my own smile playing on my lips. “You know, there was a time when I would’ve done anything to see you smile. You were always so sad.”

“I know.” He briefly pauses. “I’m trying to work on that.”

“And it helps when I let you touch me and vice versa?”

“It really does.” He lowers his forehead against mine, startling me, but I keep my feet firmly planted where they are. “You should’ve seen me when I left that dressing room.”

My pulse quickens, and my tongue feels thick in my mouth. I thought we both silently agreed not to mention him fingering me and feeling me up in the dressing room. Maybe because it’s Blaise and he usually keeps quiet about most things.

When he slants back, he notes my expression, and worry overflows his eyes. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have mentioned that. I don’t know why I did that.”

“You don’t need to apologize. We just haven’t talked about it, so I thought we were going to pretend it didn’t happen.” I scratch my arm. “Honestly, I’m kind of embarrassed about it.”

His brows knit. “What? Why?”

“Because I basically forced you to touch me.”

“Are fucking kidding me?” he questions sharply, causing me to jolt. “Do you have any idea how badly I’ve wanted to do that with you?”

I swallow shakily. “No.”

He tucks a strand of hair behind my ear. “I’ve wanted to be with you since we were fourteen, Allura.”

The wayAllurarolls off his tongue makes my skin flood with heat.

None of this makes sense. If he wanted me all the way back then, why did he go along with Ryder’s lie about taking my virginity?

“Okay, what the hell, you two?” Reece appears by our side. “I’ve been walking around, talking to myself for like a minute straight because I thought you guys were right behind me. Instead, you’re standing here, looking like you’re about to fuck.”

I shove him. “Hey, don’t say that.”

Reece busts up laughing as he stumbles back. “What? The truth?”

I glare daggers at him. “Glad to see you haven’t changed at all.”
