Page 56 of Withholding Nothing

She sighed and slightly pulled away from me. “Last night was great, but…I don’t know. I just see it complicating things already,” she muttered.

“Complicating things how? We’ve both made it clear that we weren’t looking for a relationship—”

“And I made it clear that casual sex wasn’t my thing,” she tossed back. “So what happens now? Do we pretend that this never happened and go back to our lives as roommates or something?”

“What do you want to happen, Ashton?” I asked, cocking my head as I looked at her. She stared at me.

“I don’t know. But last night was…it was more than I bargained for,” she whispered.

“I don’t understand,” I started. “Did you not want to go that far? I asked you and—”

“No, I mean…it’s complicated, okay?”

“Then try to explain it. I want to understand what you mean.” I replayed her words over and over, trying to make sense of them before it finally dawned on me. “Unless you agree with me on the fact that last night felt like something deeper than sex.”

Her eyes widened as her lips parted. Surprise and a bit of relief reflected in her eyes at my words. “You felt it, too, then?” she breathed.

Though I knew what she meant, I wanted to hear it directly from her mouth. “Felt what exactly?”

The hope in her eyes dulled at my words. She gained her composure and shook her head, turning back to her orange juice. “Nothing, O’Shea.”

“I just want to make sure we’re talking about the same thing.”

She took a sip of her juice, still keeping her eyes away from me. “Last night didn’t feel like the rough, carnal sex I thought you’d been preparing me for and talking about all week. It felt…oddly passionate.”

“I agree,” I said.

“And that makes things complicated.”

“I don’t see why it would.”

“Of course you don’t. But I don’t have casual sex because I equate it to love and I’m…I’m just not ready for all of that right now,” she murmured.

I pulled her to her feet and turned her to face me, pulling at the sash keeping her robe together until it was untied. She looked up at me as her robe fell open, exposing her naked body.

“We’re not putting titles on anything. I personally don’t see anything wrong with what we did last night and I have no problem doing it again,” I said softly, dipping my head to take her pink nipple into my mouth. Although we both knew this was only a distraction to divert her away from the real issue at hand, she didn’t stop me. Her hand caressed my cheek as I suckled her sensitive nipple. My arms snaked around her as my hands reached down to cup her ass and squeeze, picking her up and sitting her on the island.

“What about breakfast?” she breathed, watching as I kissed down her stomach. I pushed her back and parted her legs.

“Breakfast is served…for me at least.”

“It’s such a shame that you make me come but you won’t fuck me,” she purred when I’d finished feasting on her, her legs tightly wrapped around my waist as she kissed my neck. I chuckled.

“Trust me, I would have if I didn’t have to work this morning. You’re going to make me late.”

“We have time for a quickie if you skip breakfast,” she whispered.

“My little sex kitten sounds needy,” I teased. She smiled and licked her lips.

“I wouldn’t be so needy if the devil knew how to keep his tongue to himself.”

“It’s hard to resist when Satan herself comes in here naked under a robe. You were trying to seduce me and you know it, woman,” I said, quickly kissing her on the lips and prying her legs from around me.

“I wasn’t trying to seduce you; I was just coming in here to see what you were burning up,” she joked with a smirk.

“We’ve been through this already. I know how to cook. It’s not that hard to make bacon, eggs, and a few pieces of French toast.” I plated the food and handed her one. “Now eat up. I’ll see you this evening.”
