I chuckled at the reminder of our very unconventional first encounter, but the vulnerable look on Holt’s face made me sober quickly.

“Me too,” I croaked, my heart pounding hard as I cupped the side of his neck. “I’m glad too, Holt.”

Chapter Thirty-Three

Ethel and the Ex

That Saturday, after watching the wrestling on Friday evening and spending the night at Holt’s, we got up early to head into town. I was beyond excited, because Holt wanted to show me some places that were secretly run by supernatural folk. When he led us down the street to the diner he’d chosen for breakfast, I stopped in disbelief.

“Lupe’s Diner?” I stared up at the familiar sign. “Seriously? I used to come here all the time in my twenties.”

Holt chuckled, grabbing my hand and pushing open the door. The familiar little bell was a sound I hadn’t heard in years.

“Yep, run by a pack of werewolves,” he murmured to me quietly as he led us to an empty booth. “I think they’re related to Ludo, actually. Cousins or something. Werewolves all seem to be related to each other in some way.”

The diner I used to frequent was run by werewolves. Huh. Well, that explained why all the line cooks were big and burly. And possibly why there was a metal sign behind the counter that said, “Keep dogs on a leash” and someone had scrawled “LOL” in permanent marker on it.

And why there was a deer head mounted to the wall. And a full moon printed in the corner of the menus. Honestly, now that I knew werewolves existed, I felt a little silly for not realising.

We settled into opposite sides of the booth, Holt immediately tangling his legs with mine as he shrugged off his faux fur jacket. He was wearing a tight lime green T-shirt under it and actual leather pants. I’d look like a complete fool in leather pants—I’d definitely get stuck in them—but he looked amazingly hot as always. I missed his grey skin and bright pink eyes, but he was still beautiful in his human form.

Extremely beautiful. Other people in the diner kept eyeing him with appreciation, so I defiantly reached across the table and held his hand. He beamed at me, linking our fingers together.

“Morning, gents.” A guy in his early twenties wearing a backwards cap and a tight T-shirt appeared with a steaming pot, flipping the cups on the table to pour us some coffee. He did a double take after glancing at Holt, then casually said, “Heard there’s a fog rolling in tonight.”

“Good job I have great eyesight,” Holt replied easily. The guy nodded and stepped back.

“I’ll be back in a minute to take your orders.”

Once he’d walked off, Holt leaned in. “Code for non-humans.”

“Oh, right. Cool.” I reluctantly let go of his hand so he could add cream to his coffee and stir it. I did the same, then picked up my menu. “Gosh, I’m so hungry this morning.”

“Mmm, wonder why.” Holt’s eyes sparked with mischief as he had a sip of coffee and watched me over the rim of his cup.

I flushed, my belly dipping as I thought back to last night. Holt had gotten me on my front on the bed and tied my wrists together at my lower back with one of his neckties. With my chest against the mattress and my ass hiked high, he’d fucked me from behind, determined to give me as many P-spot orgasms as I’d had that first night.

And he’d refused to touch my cock for all of it. Not even when I’d started mindlessly begging, rocking back into his hard thrusts, my fingers flexing in their restraints. Once he’d come, he’d gently tugged me upright and plastered my back to his front, moaning at the sight of my flushed, leaking cock jutting out from my body. Stirring his hips as his cock pulsed inside me, he’d teased my tip with his fingertips until I was shuddering, bucking frantically into the touch. With his free hand, he’d carded his fingers through my hair and craned my head back onto his shoulder. When he’d finally fisted my cock and tugged at my hair, tightening his grip, I’d cried out and shot onto the bed.

“What’re you getting?”

Holt’s husky voice snapped me back to the present, and I tugged on the front of my jeans as my cock twitched at the memory. He grinned at me over his menu, tracing his fingertips lightly along my inner forearm where it was resting on the table, making me shiver.

I quickly scanned the menu. “Maybe eggs benedict. With home fries.”

“Nice. I’m gonna get chicken and waffles.” Holt smiled at the server as he returned, pulling out a little notepad and a stubby pencil.

Once we’d placed our orders, Holt slurped down half his coffee then grabbed my hand again, as if he didn’t like not touching me even for a few minutes. My belly squeezed tight with pleasure as I clutched his hand back.

“So where are we going today?” I asked eagerly. “Thrift shops?”

He grinned. “Yeah. And there’s an antique store downtown. It’s pricey, but we can take a look.”

“Cool. What about other places that are… you know…” I gestured at him and then the diner, to convey that I meant places run by supernaturals. “Ooh, Larkin told me his mom owns a new age store. I bet that’s interesting.”

Holt grimaced. “She won’t let us leave if we go in. She talks as much as her son. And she’ll try and get you to have a reading. She’s a Seer.” He raised a brow at me. “You want to know your future?”

I blanched. “I think that would just cause me massive anxiety.”
