I laugh and look over at Havoc. “Where do you have space, Killer?”

He glances down at his chest then his arms.

“I think I have some room on my back.”

He turns and lifts his shirt, the perfect spot available under his left shoulder blade.

“Looks like the perfect spot to me,” Lev says as he takes out some premade stencils and begins to fit them into the spot.

Before I know it, we have all taken turns laying on the table to get our ink while Damien entertains us. Akio and Adrian arrive as my ink is finishing up.

“How’d the appointment go?” I ask, anxious to hear if they have any news.

Akio comes to sit by me in the chair Havoc just vacated. He was convinced I would wimp out from the pain and wanted tohold my hand. In reality, I think he was nervous about someone hurting me and didn’t want to say that, so I appeased him.

Tattoos feel good in my opinion. At least in this location. When I notice Akio seems shy to talk, I tilt my head in his direction.

“You don’t have to talk here if you’re uncomfortable.”

“It’s not that.” He wrings his fingers together. “So, the doctor doesn’t think it’s a good idea for us to have a baby, and I’m scared Adrian will leave because of it.”

He says it in just a whisper, only for us to hear. The buzzing of the tattoo gun stops, and Lev leans over.

“Akio, that man looks at you like you walk on water. Don’t create doubt where it hasn’t been earned.”

The buzzing starts back up, and my brows lift because that was good advice.

“Go talk to him,” I encourage.

“That’s the thing. I did. And he seems totally okay with it. He even pulled up an adoption site on the way home, and we started talking about what age we would like to have.”

“So what’s the problem? Why do you think he’s going to leave you?”

Akio shrugs, staring at the floor. “Because this is one thing I should have been able to give us.”

As if Adrian could sense Akio’s emotions, he comes up behind him, placing his hands on his shoulders.

Adrian looks at me, his wavy brown hair falling into his face as he tilts his head. “Is he telling you he’s afraid I’m going to leave because of the baby thing?”

I roll my lips as if I were sealing them, and Akio scoffs.

“You’ll leave eventually.”

Adrian gets on his knees in front of him, his voice full of sincerity.

“Akio, I love you. While we still have a lot of stuff to figure out for our future, one thing I can promise you is that we are in it together. What can I do to prove this to you?”

“I could give you both some ink,” Lev offers. “Whatever you want so that the feeling of doubt never sets in for you on those dark days.”

“Do you have something for Evie?” I ask.

“We all have our rings tattooed, and she wears our bite marks. I added four leaf clovers to my sleeve on my right arm for her too.”

He turns his arm so I can see the clovers that wrap around.

“That’s a good idea,” I say to Akio.

“Are you sure?” he asks Adrian.
