“I am.” It was honestly hard not to. I scented him all the time even when he wasn’t here and I wanted him more than I could’ve imagined knowing just how close my entire pack was.

My pack.

I inhaled sharply.

“You okay?”

“Yeah, I uh…” I paused. “Just an intrusive thought.”

“A fun one?”

“Not sure yet.” For the first time though, it didn’t completely scare me.

Mine.

Chapter

Nineteen

LEESON

“What the hell is she doing here?” Silas snapped at me. “Where is she?”

So he could tell when she was here. “She’s with Jacob right now. He just left to take her back to her dorm. He’s probably staying there with her since she doesn’t feel welcome enough to stay here.”

“What?” Silas’ brow creased. “That’s not what I am talking about, Lee. I’m asking, what? As in why? She is still hanging around here and what you are doing…” he took a deep breath. “You’re just giving in to this random girl. This random omega like suddenly she is the most important thing in the world to you two.”

“That’s because she is. Or she’s going to be.”

“It’s like you two are completely brainwashed.” Silas reached for his hair, but since he cut it short last semester there was nothing to grab onto. “I warned her to stay away.”

“We’re well aware.”

“Are you also aware that the harmless omega you left in here is set to go into fucking heat any day now likely and probably will expect you to take care of her?”

“She should expect that,” I snapped before I could stop myself. Because she should expect that. She was our omega and there was nothing wrong with that. I stared at my pack leader. My pack mate. My equal when it all came down to it though right now, it felt like complete shit however I spun what could go on. “She should expect her alphas to love and take care of her.”

“Love?” Silas scoffed.

“Yeah. In case you didn’t notice if you only spent a little time with her, Vera is easy to love. Nervous and clearly not used to people treating her right or even like her designation deserves out in the world just because she didn’t follow the same path as other omegas—but so what? She deserves good things. Better than whatever you have been telling her. I’d feel freaking honored if she let me even near her during her heat. For her to trust me that much if that is what she decides.”

Silas mumbled something that sounded a lot like, “Idiots.”

I inhaled, sharply. I just didn’t understand it. “Si.”

“No.” He put up a hand, pushing past me as he dropped his back and headed towards the hall to retreat into his room. “Don’t you even start with me.”

I took a step after him. “Give her a chance.”

“No.”

“Why not?”

“Because.” He shook his head. “Because she is going to ruin everything we worked for.”

“No, Si. Right now? You are.”

He paused, blinking at me. “See?”
