“What was that?” Jacob asked from somewhere. “Why is she upset?”

Silas’s chin bent over my head, keeping me protected from whoever else was out there all looking at me. “She’s fine. She just needs space and to get away from here. Isn’t that right, omega?”

I tucked myself harder against him. I needed to go home. I wanted to go home.

“We’ll get you back home, omega,” promised Silas. Before I realized where we were already, we must’ve made it past the locker rooms and out the front door of the ice rink. Peeking my eyes open, Leeson was rushing towards us with his arms extended. “Get back in the car and let’s get out of here.

Quickly turning on his heel, Leeson headed back for the car with the rest of us loading ourselves inside. Leeson slid into the driver’s seat. Sliding me into the backseat with the other too, I couldn’t help myself as I leaned forward to look at Leeson more. Keeping his eyes on the road, he reached back with a single hand. I held it tight in my hand. His thumb strummed over the back of my hand as we pulled out on the road.

“I’m right here, Vera.”

I hummed, blinking between all of them. “Thank you.”

“Don’t thank us yet,” said Jacob. “Let’s get you home first.”

Somehow, times seemed to pass differently when I was hesitating on the precipice of a full-blown heat than any other time I’d dread.

I squirmed in my seat just as Leeson pushed the car into park and yanked the key out of the ignition. The car beeped at the sudden movements, the high-pitched sound was loud against my ears, though it didn’t last before I was back in Jacob’s arms. This time as we headed into the apartment building. Luckily, we ran into no one on the way.

“Holding on, sweetness?”

I nodded, not trusting my voice until we finally got into the apartment. It was just how we left it even though now the sun was down and everything was cast in the glow of nighttime.

“I’m going to put you on your feet now,” Jacob said.

Carefully, I touched my feet to the tile in the kitchen as they all started to drop their bags and strip off the heavy pads none of them had bothered to take off before leaving the rink. How hadn’t I noticed that until now?

Leeson smirked. “Are you doing okay, Vera?”

I nodded again.

“You look a little flushed, but you’re still with us?”

“Uh-huh.”

“Good girl.”

A rush of heat slid into my stomach and heated me back up again. Before I could prepare myself for what was bound to happen next, a new wave of cramps hit me, propelling me until I was pressed against Leeson’s chest.

“What can we do?”

“Help me. Please. I want you,” I whispered.

“Take her to the nest.”

The… nest?

I didn’t know what they were talking about, but I wasn’t about to argue as we hustled down the hallway. I only trippedover my own feet twice before at the very end of the hallway we stopped in front of Silas’ room. Out of all the bedrooms, I had been in his bedroom the least, though the scent still enticed me in like the most magical of spells.

This time when I took a step inside, I cupped my hands over my mouth.

There was only one way to describe the setup that they created. Silas’ room was the smallest out of them in the apartment. Now, it was transformed into the perfect dark, cozy paradise that made my entire nervous system turn lax.

“When…”

“We had a feeling it would be any day when we started to notice you starting to… collect things,” said Jacob.

The corners of my lips curved thinking about just how many of Leeson’s sweatshirts I’d been living in. I was unable to wear anything else. It felt wrong. There were also the many blankets I stole from the alphas’ rooms knowing that they wouldn’t mind if I created my own little space in the living room when they were at practice, and I was left to do my homework in the morning until they returned…
