“Hey, Ava wouldn’t like me getting beat up, she might go all hulk again.” He stumbled along behind her, nervously trying to talk his way out of her scheme. “Also, you can’t let me get hurt because it would make her look bad.”

“Ha. Yeah, right. She’d request a video, dissect every wrong move you made, then train you for six months before letting you back on the road again. Don’t act like a victim and don’t be an embarrassment. You want this girl, then you’ll have to find some acting skills at the very least. Now point him out to me.”

“Umm, the big guy headed this way with a small army around him.”

Still gripping Travis’s arm roughly, she stopped in the open hallway entry, waiting impatiently for the clearly angry Alpha wolf to get closer. Travis wasn’t lying. The guy was huge, furious, and already clenching his meaty fists. Easy on the eyes too. She hadn’t had a man with a full beard in a while. Hell, she hadn’t had any man for months, and the last Alpha she had fucked left her sore for a week. But she needed to focus, and not get distracted.

“Are you the one hassling my friend? Bullying him?”

The man towered over her, and his Alpha aura permeated the area, but she didn’t back up. Instead, she stepped closer to him. She was taller than most other female shifters at 5’10, before heels, and deceptively strong, so she wasn’t someone people could push around. But none of that mattered. It was all about attitude.

“He is harassing my sister. He was warned to stay away, and he’s been caught several times hanging on her, and now she is missing and ignoring my links.”

“Are you blind as well as arrogant? The poor guy is clearly not all there in the head. Travis was born a little simple and doesn’t understand what you’re talking about. He wouldn’t hurt a fly, and he certainly doesn’t have the ability to coerce your sister. Either way, he’s under my protection, so if you hurt him, we are going to have problems.” She punctuated her words by poking him in the chest with her finger, her pointed nail digging into his nicely muscled pec.

He frowned at her, the confusion and hesitation evident on his face. His pack shuffled their feet around him, nervous energy filling the air. She was betting they had recognized her from Aisling by now. But he hadn’t.

“He said he was the Beta of a powerful pack—has been telling everyone that. I think he can defend himself.”

“Oh, so you really don’t get it.” She relaxed a little, then nodded her head towards Travis conspiratorially. “We tell him he can be Beta one day, but we are just humoring the little guy. Does he look like he could be the Beta of a powerful pack? Come on. His dad’s the Beta. We let him think that.” She squeezed Travis’s bicep in warning, reminding him to play along.

“I will be Beta. Ava says I can be anything I want to be.” He smiled big and waved like a child.

She leaned in a little, placing her palm on the Alpha’s chest and whispering close to his ear when he tilted his head towards her, still unsure. “See, the mind of a six-year-old.”

She stepped back, then winked at him. “He couldn’t use his little weapon on your sister, even if he wanted to. You know what I mean? Because what little he had to start with? Our old Alpha cut it off. Said he didn’t want him to accidentally reproduce.”

“Wait. What? No.” Travis seemed like he was panicking, but she had let go of his arm to step closer to the Alpha. The man had relaxed, and instead of anger, she could feel his interest shifting towards her.

“See, he doesn’t even know what we are talking about. Poor thing.”

“Someone should still teach him a lesson. He cannot go around making unwanted advances on women, especially after being warned. Maybe I should take this up with your Alpha instead.”

She moved closer to Travis now, wrapping her arm around him protectively, and ruffling his hair like he was a child. “You’re welcome to contact our Alpha. She won’t appreciate your insistence. But hey, that’s your death. For now, he’s with me.”

“She?”

She cocked her eyebrow at him, then looked around at his pack members. “Someone going to tell him?”

One of the younger guys shuffled closer, eyeing her nervously. “They’re…uh…they’re Aisling, Alpha. I’d recognize her anywhere. Alpha Ava is her best friend… right?” He looked at her for confirmation.

She smiled gently, with sympathy on her face. “That would be me. And Trav here? He’s her special little friend, right Trav? Carries her extra weapons for her and makes her laugh, like a dickless town clown. So, you see, he really isn’t a threat to your sweet little sister’s virtue. And honestly, if he’s still here, and your sister’s not, I’m betting she used him to distract you.”

With that, he turned to the shifter closest to him, said a few words, and they all left quickly, clearly on the search for the missing sister. Travis took the moment of distraction to use their pack connection to mindlink her, annoying her more somehow.

“There’s nothing virtuous about his sister, or the things I’m going to do to her.”

“Then you better sell it and disappear.”

“She left her phone here, so it will look like she’s in the hotel. I have her friend’s number so we can meet up.”

“Sounds like she’s done this before. You better hope she’s good at avoiding her brother. I’m not saving you again.”

“So, are we good, Alpha?”

He frowned at them, still unsure of the whole situation. But Travis began unzipping his pants while loudly and excitedly asking the man, “Want to see my peepee? It’s like a Vienna sausage, but my mommy says my mate will still like it one day. What do you think?”

“No. No, Trav. We’ve talked about this. We don’t show people our peepee, remember? How about you go up to the room? No more hiding in closets tonight.”
