It hit her again that they were in the middle of a garden, outside his house, where anyone in the world could have seen and heard.

“Do you think anyone…”

“Probably. You were loud.”

She snorted. “Your fault. You’re a horny bastard.”

A slow smile spread across his face, and she swore her heart melted a little. In the eight days since she’d met him, she didn’tthink she’d seen him full-on smile like this. Perfect white teeth and a strong, square jaw begged for her touch, but the light in his amber eyes drew her in. She could drown in those eyes—they were dangerous, inviting, and comforting all at once. Again, she found herself in his lap, face in his neck, just breathing him in. He smelled so yummy, and he was hers, all hers.

Except he couldn’t be.

When his arms wrapped around her, covering her nakedness, she tried to remember why she needed to leave this man behind. Why she couldn’t keep him forever. She had no clue how much time had passed, but eventually, he pulled her hoodie back over her head, then handed her the shorts she had kicked away. She leaned back against the wall and watched as he stood, pulling his jeans back over that succulent ass.

“Damn. Anyone ever told you how nice your ass is? Someone has had to. If not, you need better friends.”

He only cocked his eyebrow at her, his eyes sliding down to her naked legs, then back up.

“Juicy and muscular. A little thick, but not too much. Makes me want to grab it, maybe take a little bite.”

He merely wagged his finger at her, pulling on his now dirty and tattered shirt. And after slipping on her own shorts, she ran her hand along the holes scraped into the shirt.

“That’s some major brick-burn on your poor shirt. Hope you weren’t attached to it.”

He tilted his head to the side and, using one finger, he lifted her chin, his lips meeting hers in a soft kiss that sent goosebumps over her whole body.

“Worth it.”

And then he was gone, moving across the grass towards his front door, and she wasn’t sure what she was supposed to do, but there was no way in hell she was walking in his house looking like she took a roll in the hay. Instead, she checked the streetfor anyone watching, then hustled over to her Jeep, grabbed the keys out of the glove box, and started it up.

She was supposed to have an escort, so she waited until he appeared, starting his truck and pulling out in front of her. She hadn’t decided what that meant yet, but she hoped it meant he would stay with her for the night. Or maybe his Alpha had forbidden it. Guess they would find out.

It was late, and when they both parked, he was out and carrying her suitcases in for her without saying a word. She followed him up, so when he came to a complete stop, she slammed into the back of him going up the steps.

“Shit. I almost fell off the porch. Move your big ass.”

She pushed past where he had frozen at the top of the stairs and stopped as abruptly as he did.

“Holy fuckballs, you two scared the shit out of me. Like twin statues.”

She paused uneasily in the silence, realizing she could feel the Alpha’s anger. An Alpha’s aura was easily controlled, or easily loosed, and right now the fury rolled off Axel, and his commanding presence had Nassau frozen. Although she wasn’t a part of his pack, she shifted nervously, looking between him and Ajax, who leaned against the shadowed corner a few feet away.

When neither of them said a word, she broke the silence. “So… thanks for waiting up for me, but I’m gonna head to bed. Been a long day.”

“Don’t move.”

She felt the Alpha command roll over her, freezing her in place. Shit. He must be really mad.

“Nassau, you were given charge of Bailey’s safety, correct?”

“Yes, Alpha.”

“You were told not to relax, to keep your eye on her anytime she was with you, correct?”

“Yes, Alpha.”

“Do you think she is out of danger?”

“No, Alpha.”
