“Evidence, I assume. I brought something for you to change into when they discharge you.”

“There is a show tonight.”

“Postponed. ObviouslyKey Failuresis being replaced for the remaining two dates.”

“Skylar?”

“He has been blowing up your phone. Apologizing.”

“You looked at my phone?”

She shrugs. “I’ve been waiting for Wes to call or text. I assumed you’d want him here.”

“He is in jail because of me.” My lip quivers. This is all my fault.

“Honey, he’d probably be in jail no matter who it was, but he may get attempted murder because it was you.” A tear slides down my face. “The charges are bound to be dropped, though. Crime of passion. Alex will get him a good lawyer. I wouldn’t worry about it.”

“I messed everything up.” I cry, tears dripping. I pull my knees to my chest and wince at the pain.

“You have bruises and cuts on your knees and a small bump on your head from falling.”

I bury my face into my legs and cry.

“It’s going to be okay. We have a lot of evidence against him.”

“Cut him a deal. No trail. No jail. Just a deal in exchange for letting Wes off.”

“I’m afraid that’s not going to happen. Wes can take care of himself. He wouldn’t want you to cut that piece of shit a deal just to protect him. Get justice for once in your life.”

“Does everyone know?” I ask, wiping at my face, still crying.

“The rumor mill is working overtime.”

“So, that’s a yes?”

“Yes. There was not a lot I could do to keep it under wraps.”

“God.” The tears flow faster, harder at this knowledge.

“Hey, speak of the devil. It’s Wes. Do you want to get it?” She questions, holding my buzzing phone out to me. “Or should I?”

I grab it and clear my throat, trying to pull myself together.

“Wes.”

“Abbey.” He replies, and I start to cry again. “Are you okay?”

“Wes, I’m so sorry.”

“What? Why are you sorry?” I just cry. “Hey. Hey. It’s okay. Where are you?”

“Hospital.” I choke out.

“Which one?”

“I don’t know.” I say, looking at Sue. “What hospital are we are?” I breathe, trying to stop crying.

“Mercy.”
