“Of course you are. Remember the rules. You get me before using the bathroom. If I hear even the tiniest rumor of you in the bathroom without me, I will put an end to the whole Wes thing.”

“What?” I almost yell. I’m shocked by this threat of hers.

“You have nothing to worry about if you follow the rules.” She shrugs.

“Fine.” I sigh.

She is now going to use Wes to get me to behave. And sadly, it works too well. I am terrified at the thought of having him taken away from me. I’ve become dependent on him in just a few days.

“Be at side stage ten minutes before your set.”

“Yes.” I agree.

I wait for her to leave before grabbing a vial and taking a bump. I slide both vials into the pocket of my skirt and do a once-over in the mirror. I check my make-up, fixing a few smudges. I turn in the mirror to check my outside. The skirt wasn’t too short, but I still put on spandex shorts underneath it, just in case. I tug on the sleeves of my shirt. You could see my black bra underneath it.

I look the part of the sexy rockstar. I look the part. Now, it’s time to play the part.

I take a deep breath, and head out to the backstage area.

The first band,Key Failures, is just about to take the stage. I scan the room for Wes. I find him at the table of booze, standing next to Dennis and some girl.

I’m jealous. I knew it the second I spotted her. She is beautiful. She is curvy, with a great set of boobs. I have lost most of my boobs with the weight loss. He is probably a tit guy, which is probably why he said I’d look stunning if I gained more weight.

I debate going over there. Wes and I are friends. I could go over there and say hi, but girls never really like me, and I don’t want to risk getting more jealous if he is actually flirting with her.

Maybe he changed his mind about fucking someone else tonight. Maybe he sees my point. Maybe he would fuck her and get over me. Maybe my throwing up earlier ruined everything.

I want to cry but I know that will ruin my make up so instead I walk to the side stage area and lean against the wall.

A guy with black hair that has a streak of blue in it looks my way. He is medium height with blue eyes. His ivory face has a few freckles on it. He is thin, but built.

“Abbey Dark.” He says, walking up to me, his guitar hanging over his shoulder. “Are you going to watch our set?”

A few of the other people gathered around the side stage area looked my way when he said my name. I can feel their eyes on me, and I wonder what the rumor will be. Am I fucking this guy now?

“Maybe. Yeah.”

“The name is Skylar.” So, this is the guy Sue wanted me to date. He is cute. Wes is hotter, but he is not bad-looking by any means. “I hope you enjoy our set.” He smiles and then walks back to his group.

He seems nice, but I know better than to trust first impressions.

They take the stage, and I stay leaning against the wall. Skylar stands on the side of the stage closest to me. He glances my way once during their opening song but otherwise stays facing the crowd.

I wonder what he thinks of me being here. Does he think I want him? Sue had said she would’ve preferred him. Was there some matchmaking going on behind the scenes by the label?

It wouldn’t be the first time the label played matchmaker between some guy and me. They often set me up with random guys. Most of the time, it was just a date or two. Sometimes, I’d date them for longer, but most of them were big jerks. They would use my fame to grow theirs.

I feel someone tap me on the shoulder and look over. It’s Wes. He smiles at me before turning to look at the stage. He bobs his head in time with the music, and his hand brushes against mine. The air feels tense. I desperately want to touch him, to grab his hand and hold it, but I can feel the eyes on us. I know what they would say if we held hands. I can already guess what they will say just because we are standing side by side.

I don’t dare look over at him. I keep my eyes focused on the stage. And that’s how we stay throughout the whole set. Just standing side by side.

“Hey.” Skylar says, coming up to me after he hangs up his guitar. “How did we do?”

“You did great.” I say.

Wes has moved slightly away from me, but I can feel his eyes on me.

“Thank you. I’m glad you liked it.” Skylar smiles at me. “Do you want to grab a drink?”
