“I’ll be right out.” I say, taking my clothes and makeup bag into the bathroom with me.

“Take your time.”

I brush my teeth and brush out my hair. I straighten it quickly so it hangs down straight. I do my makeup next. I do smoke eye shadow and winged eyeliner, with some mascara. Just a thin layer of foundation and, as always, my red lipstick.

I change, putting on a black thong. The dress is strapless, so I settled on not wearing a bra. My breasts are perky and small enough for it not to be a problem.

I slide on my heels and look in the mirror. I look the part of a glamorous rock star going to a fancy meal.

A meal I would eat and try to enjoy for once, for I will be with Wes, my best friend, who I like, who I may eventually be more with. I will be better for him. Tonight, I will be better. I will eat. I will be fine. It will be fine.

I take a deep breath, adjust the dress, and walk out of the bathroom.

I walk over and grab a black purse. I slide in my phone, wallet, and my lipstick in case I need to touch it up later on. Wes looks over at me.

“Wow. A little much for a friend date.”

“Best friend date.” I say playfully. “But really, too much?”

“No. I mean, yes. I would prefer you in way less clothing, but no, you look wonderful.”

“Then, I guess I’m ready.” I say, fighting a blush and losing.

“You make it really hard to behave.” He says, coming over to me. He brushes my cheek. “But I will try.” I simply nod. “So, I should probably call a car.” He steps away, pulling out his phone.

We get to the restaurant a little before eight. They told Wes it would be a little while before his table was ready, so we headed over to the bar.

The restaurant is really nice. There is ivy hanging from the ceiling, with chandeliers hanging above each table. There is low piano music playing in the background. All the staff are wearing suits with ties and coattails. I’m pretty sure I’ve been here before, but I can’t really recall with whom or when.

Wes lets me take the only empty stool at the bar, and he stands next to me. He waves over the bartender, who comes walking over to us rather quickly. I wonder if he recognizes who we are.

“I’ll take black label neat.” He looks over at me and I shrug. “And she will have a lemon drop.”

The bartender nods and starts making our drinks.

“Is a lemon drop okay?”

“It’s vodka.”

“You’ve had one before?” I nod. I look around the room. “Have you been here before?”

“I think so, but I can’t remember.” I admit. “It’s very pretty here. Have you been here before?”

“Once or twice.”

The bartender sets our drinks down, and Wes pays him.

“Have you been on a lot of dates?” I ask.

“Friend dates or date dates?”

“The latter.” I say.

“What is a lot?” He smiles. “I’ve been on a decent amount, I suppose. You?”

“Yeah. A lot of dates, mostly set up by the label or with one of my dumb exes.”

“You know they once tried to fix us up on a date.”
