All the badness is over. No more debts. No more secrets. No more broken hearts.

Damon and me and my father.

Everyone is fine.

It’s all finally over.

“I love you, Dad.”

“I love you, Ava.”

I lean over and rest my head on my father’s shoulder and watch the peaceful park.

And I remember that wish I had made in that meadow all those years ago, and I realize it’s come true.

Be happy with Daddy forever.

EPILOGUE

AVA

ThankGod that Olivia is here. Someone to hang on to in this crazy place.

“Hey!”

She greets me with the biggest smile.

Yeah, thank God a million times she’s here.

“Hey, Olivia.”

We wrap ourselves in a big hug.

“Where’s Spencer?” I ask her, looking around for her man.

“He’s already inside,” Olivia replies with a roll of her eyes. “He wants to talk to everyone. He loves a good talk like the English Literature professor he is.”

“Ha. Sure.”

“You ready for this?” she asks me, nodding at the front door. “Ready for all the commotion?”

I shake my head. “Nope. I am not ready. Not in a million, billion years.”

“Ava is simply pretending,” Damon says from behind me. He’s parked the car and has bounded up to us girls in his trademark black suit. “She can’t turn down a party.”

I turn to him. “Shut up, Damon.”

My fiancé grins, his dark, rugged, handsome face lighting up. “Never.”

I roll my eyes at him and Olivia giggles.

“Come on,” Damon says. “We can’t keep the family waiting, girls. Let’s get inside.”

“No, we can’t keep them waiting,” I remark. “Not the Penmaynes, of all people.”

The Penmayne family mansion is a hell of a lot bigger than Damon’s place. This building – thiscomplex– has clearly been built in mind to best intimidate anyone who is not part of the Penmayne dynasty. High walls. Security. An impressive façade that screams wealth beyond your wildest imaginings. We’re just outside Crystal River.

A member of the Penmayne security opens the front door for us as we approach. Damon has told me that the mansion is designed in a Colonial Revival style, whatever that means. Architecture is not my strongest subject. There is a quiet simplicity to the grounds of this place, though. It’s as if the Penmayne familyknowsthey are rich and don’t have to display it in some gaudy, tacky style like new millionaires do. It’s like they are above the rest of society.
