“What’s this?” I ask him, peering down at the grimy spot.

“This is what I want to show you. That’s where I spent every night for the first few weeks I was living in this city,” Damon replies, his voice soft. “Penniless, hungry, ambitious, and hellbent on revenge. This was where I went after I witnessed my godfather being shot. This is where I disappeared from my privileged life and where I started a new life. This was where I met Jim. This was where everything changed for me.”

“You wanted to show me this?” I ask quietly.

“Yes,” Damon replies.

“You wanted to show me where you spent the worst time of your life?”

“Yes.”

I stroke the man’s cheek. I can see the emotion in his eyes. The memories. The pain. The struggle. It’s all inthere. And there is also the pride he has for crawling out of that bleakest moment of his life.

“A lot has changed since then,” I say. “You’vechanged since then.”

Damon nods. “True. Now all this city is mine.”

“It’s your kingdom,” I say.

Damon likes that.

“Yes,” he replies. “It is my kingdom. And you are my queen.”

Damon's so-calledusualhotel suite is nothing short of incredible. I stand on the balcony, looking out over this amazing city, the wind blowing through my hair. I can’t help but be overwhelmed over how high up we are. And the rooms themselves in this suite are the most lavish rooms I could ever imagine. I’ve never seen anything as extravagant as this, not even in documentaries or on social media.

It’s as opulent as Damon’s private jet, and just as much a fairytale. There’s a chandelier in the main living space. A separate bedroom that’s practically the size of Dad’s house back home. A jacuzzi. A dedicated concierge at our beck and call. It feels all so...indulgent.

I can’t believe I’m here.

I can’t believe I’m experiencing this.

I can’t believe I’m standing right next to the man of my dreams.

“You like it?” Damon asks me, wrapping his arms around my waist and hugging me from behind as I behold this crazy, impressive view.

“Yeah,” I reply quietly.

“Yeah?”

He’s taken aback.

“Yeah, I like it just alittlebit,” I say. “A teeny tiny bit.”

The man spins me around and takes a moment to longingly kiss me. I find myself melting into his embrace.

There are so many hidden layers to the man. So many I didn’t see at first…

“Come to bed,” he whispers in my ear once he’s done kissing me. “Seeing you naked will be a better view than the one out here.”

I shake my head.

“Not just yet,” I reply.

“Are you disobeying my direct order, Ava Matson?” he asks.

“Yeah, I am. How about you wait for me in the bedroom,” I say to the man. “I have a gift for you.”
