“Only time can fix it.”

“If I’d chosen Jaron and you were the one feeling crushed right now, you wouldn’t want to talk to me?”

Ethan shrugs. “I wouldn’t have a problem talking to you. I probably would have made a meme about you though, and shared it with the whole school.”

I shove Ethan lightly and he laughs. “Too soon? I honestly don’t know what I would have done,” he says, shrugging.

Ethan pulls me close and we dance across the floor. We end up beside Dean and a girl I don’t recognize.

“Where’s Taylor?” I whisper.

“I think she stormed out a while ago. She probably assumed Dean would go after her. But I think he’s had enough of her drama.”

“It’s about time,” I say, bitterly.

Ethan laughs loudly. “Woah, Prom Queen! I think that’s the meanest I’ve ever heard you get.”

“Then you haven’t heard me enough,” I tease.

“I’m glad I won,” he says. “Tonight has been a blast.”

I wrap my arms more tightly around him and rest my head on his chest. I can feel his heart beating beneath my cheek. “You didn’t only win the contest. I think you won my heart.”

I look up into Ethan’s crystal blue eyes. His cheeks turn a slight shade of pink. I jump back from him and point. “Ah-hah!”

“What?”

“I made you blush,” I say, triumphantly. “I paid you back! Mr. Senior Class President. Mr. ‘I never blush’. I finally beat you at your own game!”

Ethan steps back, laughing loudly. “Oh man, you really got me,” he says.

I pump my fist in the air in triumph. “That was hard to keep a straight face, but it was totally worth it.”

Ethan suddenly bends down and kisses me. Before my brain can wrap around what is happening, he pulls away, and smiles.

“What was that?” I ask. I mean, it wasn’t terrible. But it definitely didn’t have the same passion as when Jaron kissed me.

Ethan shrugs. “I’ve been wondering since that first night we watched Netflix if your lips are as soft as your skin.”

“And?” I ask.

He smacks his lips together a couple times, while he’s thinking about it. “Not bad,” he says.

I shove him playfully and he chuckles. “So, Prom Queen, what would you like to do now?” he asks.

I adjust my sash and look at all the other students dancing around us. “Let’s go show them how it’s done.”

Ethan grins and pulls me out on the center of the dance floor. I’m having such a good time, I don’t ever want this night to end. Just a few weeks ago, I would have been terrified to have anyone watch me dance. But Ethan helped me learn that it’s okay to be scared. It’s also okay to try it anyway. I’ve learnedmore to care what I think of me, than what anyone else thinks. Senior year will definitely go down in history as one of my favorites. It’s the year I wasalmostprom queen.

Austin

“You look incredible,” Austin says.

“You look really nice, too,” I say.

The tips of Austin’s ears turn pink. He looks really good in his new, grey suit and green bowtie. I can’t remember ever seeing Austin dressed up before. I don’t hate it.

I invite Austin in. He steps inside and just stands there, looking at me.
