“You’re always right.”

“Duh.”

“But I don’t know if I want my friendship with Austin to change either. I’ve never been attracted to Austin. He’s always been like a brother to me. And if I go with Ethan, I don’t have the pressure of a relationship attached to it. It would just be one night. Fun and done. But Jaron and Austin both seem to want more than just one date out of it.”

Stephanie sighs. “I don’t know girl. Have the three of them wrestle over you. You could sell tickets to the show, then you can make a decision and a little cash on the side.”

“I’m game.” Ethan’s arm lands heavily on my shoulder, startling me.

He kisses my cheek, snapping a picture as he does so. “How’s my favorite prom queen?” he says.

I wrap my arm around his waist. “Good. You’re in to wrestle, huh?”

“Oh yeah,” he says, flexing. “Bring on nerd boy. I can take him.”

“And what about Jaron?” Stephanie says. “Would you wrestle him too?”

“Are you kidding? Have you seen that guy? He’s like an Indian Thor! I might be crazy, but I’m not suicidal.”

“You talking about me?” Jaron asks, sidling up beside me, but staring at Ethan.

Ethan’s smile faulters slightly. But he quickly recovers. “Yeah, the ladies were just asking us to wrestle over Emma.”

Jaron flexes his athletic arms. It’s quite impressive. “I’m game,” he says.

Ethan rubs his hands together. “How about a gentleman’s duel?”

“If you’re a gentleman, then I’m a chimpanzee,” Jaron says.

Ethan makes monkey sounds and Jaron moves toward him.

Stephanie steps between them, laughing. But it sounds very forced.

“Come on guys, you can find a better way to settle this,” she says. “We all need to get to class anyway.”

Jaron stalks off in one direction and Ethan continues to mimic a monkey as he half hops in the opposite direction down the hall.

I sigh. “That was almost a little scary.”

“You better make a decision before half the boys in this school try and kill each other over you,” she says, waving.

I know she’s joking, but my stomach feels tense as I make my way to class. As I walk past the library, I hear someone whisper my name.

I glance over and see Jaron waving me toward him.

“What’s up?” I ask. I’m not sure how to act around him right now. He grabs my hand and pulls me into the library. He leads me back to “our” spot and pulls me in to a tight hug.

It takes me a second to relax into his arms. I wrap my own around his waist and hug him in return. I breathe deeply. He smells so good, it’s practically intoxicating.

I pull back slowly. “What’s going on?” I ask.

“I’m sorry,” he says. “I shouldn’t have tried to force you into a decision.”

Happy chills race up my spine. “Really?”

“Yes, really.” He says. “I just…I really hate seeing you with that guy,” he says, his jaw tightening.

“Who? Ethan?”
