“Much,” she admitted with a half-smile that didn’t quite reach her eyes.

We settled on the couch, a respectful distance between us. The city stretched out beyond the floor-to-ceiling windows—a glittering backdrop to our shared silence.

“Why did you invite me here?” Mila finally asked, tucking her feet beneath her.

I let out a slow breath. “I wanted to help… and maybe I wanted your company.”

Her eyebrows rose. “My company or my compliance?”

“No games,” I assured her. “Just two people sharing wine after a long day.”

She relaxed slightly and took a sip of wine. “It’s good,” she said with genuine appreciation.

“I’m glad.” I watched her over the rim of my glass. “I want to talk about the center… about us.”

“Us?” Her voice was cautious.

“The night at the ball. The kiss in the basement,” I started but paused when I saw her flinch. “I’m not sorry it happened.”

“Neither am—”

A sudden ringtone cut through our heavy atmosphere. We both turned toward the sound emanating from my phone on the coffee table—a photo of Stuart stared back at us from the screen.

“That’s Stuart, my assistant” I explained with an apologetic smile as I silenced it. “He has impeccable timing.”

Mila chuckled, easing some tension between us. “Seems like it.”

Our eyes met again, and this time it was Mila who leaned forward, closing the gap between us.

“Cass,” she said softly, placing her glass on the table with deliberate care. “There’s more at stake here than just me or… us.”

“I know,” I admitted, setting my glass aside. “The center, your reputation. But there is still us.”

“And what about us?” Her voice barely rose above a whisper.

“We’re standing at a crossroads,” I confessed. “And whatever path we choose…I want you there with me.”

Her eyes searched my face for answers, her gaze intense and full of longing. And then it happened—we kissed again, this time with more passion and urgency than before. Our lips met softly at first, then deepened as we explored each other’s mouths with eager tongues. My hands slid up her back to cup her neck as she wrapped her arms around my waist, pulling me closer still.

As the kiss intensified, I felt myself losing control—my desire for her overwhelmed everything else at that moment. “Wait,” I said breathlessly as I pulled back from her. “Hold tight.”

I picked her up and it felt so fucking good to hold her in my arms again.

With Mila in my grasp, I crossed the threshold into the bedroom, her lithe body pressed firmly against mine. The weight of her was nothing to my strength, yet it was everything—the pressure of her curves, the softness of her flesh—it ignited a fire deep within me that made me hard in an instant. Heat radiated from our entwined forms, and I could feel the rapid beat of her heart through the thin fabric of her blouse. Her gaze, full of fear and anticipation, locked with mine, and the intensity of it nearly undid me.

“Are you scared?” I asked, my voice barely more than a whisper against the thundering silence of the room.

“Maybe… but I want this,” she breathed out, her eyes never leaving mine, dark pools of desire staring back at me.

“Good,” I murmured, “because I want you in ways I’ve never wanted anything before.”

I laid her down gently upon the silk sheets that adorned my bed—a bed that had never felt warmth like hers. She sank into the plush mattress, a sigh escaping her lips as her body relaxed beneath my gaze. For a moment, I simply stared, drinking in the sight of her—her chest rising and falling with each breath, her hair fanned out around her head like a halo.

“Beautiful,” I said, as I began to undress her, peeling away the layers that separated skin from skin. Each piece of clothing that fell to the floor was a revelation, unveiling the masterpiece before me. My hands trembled with the need to touch her, to worship every inch of her body with my lips. And so I did, trailing kisses from her collarbone down to the swell of her breasts.

“Your body is a fucking paradise,” I growled, my words muffled against her skin, eliciting a shiver that ran through her entire form.

“Please, Cassius,” she whispered, “don’t stop.”
