I growled. “That’s fucking piecemeal.”

“Yeah, but it creates safety.” He met my glare. “Some people need to be hidden from the elders, so it’s a necessary precaution. We can’t afford some secrets to get out.”

“Then give me the names of each one of the fixers and I will visit every single one of them myself.”

He laughed. Physically laughed, shaking his shitty head. “That is the last thing that is going to happen, and you damn well know it.”

“Ada has Venetia.”

“What?” Triaten instantly sobered, the smug-ass look on his face gone. “What the hell?”

“Ada didn’t share that information?” My fingers curled around the edge of the table, gripping it as I leaned farther forward. “The other body that was not found—it was Venetia’s. She should have been in the rubble. That means Ada has her.”

Anger flashed in his eyes. “Well, fucking hell, you could have led with that piece of information.”

“Could I?”

He scratched the back of his neck. “Why would Ada take her?”

“Because she loves her.”

His head dropped back, shaking, his eyes to the open rough beams above. His hand ran through his hair and he pinned a look on me. “Fucking hell—of all things—how could you let that happen?”

“I tried to stop it, but Ada is…” I paused, trying to stop the onslaught of fury that surged through my veins when I thought about Ada in anything other than a superficial way.

That was how she had to stay until I got my hands around her neck. Clinical. Superficial. An object I needed to find.

Anything more and I would fucking explode.

Goal. End game. Focus.

I cleared my throat. “Ada needs to be found.”

“But no.” Triaten shook his head. “You’re still not going to find her. Even if I wanted to help—wanted to throw Ada to the wolves—I couldn’t find her if I wanted to. If she wants to be hidden, she’ll stay hidden and there isn’t a damn thing I can do about it.”

Fuck. That.

I stood. Easy. Casual.

Then I picked up the chair and threw it across the room with all my might.

It shattered in a hundred pieces, shards of it exploding everywhere.

Triaten didn’t move a muscle.

Just watched me. Curious.

The fucking smug half-smile back on his face. “I thought as much.”

I stormed out of the hut.

Time to get off this fucking continent.
