I stopped, and my head fell back, my eyes closed as I fought my way through the red fire flooding my brain.

Three beats and my eyes opened and I spun to them. “It’s my brother. Cletus.”

“Cletus?” Triaten echoed the name. “Fucking hell.”

I looked to Aiden. “Did the bastard get in the van with her?”

“He did.” Aiden nodded. “I already have our tech in the area looking for it on the streets. They’re the best.”

“Mine are better.” I pulled out my replacement phone, my rage-filled fingers barely able to steady enough to work it. I looked to Aiden. “What info you got?”

Aiden didn’t question or argue it, and he pulled out his phone, pulling up screenshots of the black van and location. I took pictures of it and sent it to Leo, with an “Apocalypse” notation.

“Apocalypse” meant get on this shit now and he knew it.

I started to pace in the room, a caged tiger. All I wanted was to be down on the streets, pulling in behind that van and decapitating every single man that had just touched Ada. But without even a direction to head in, we were fucked.

Triaten looked to Aiden. “You think Helen did this? You think she fucking double-crossed us? Once she knew Damen was free?—”

“She contacted my fucking brother,” I interjected.

Triaten nodded.

I glared at him. “Does Helen even know what Cletus did to Ada long ago?”

Triaten shrugged. “Probably. I didn’t think she knew about what happened during the war—the decimation Ada caused. But she did. And if she knew what Ada did, then she probably knew who had captured her in the first place.”

“Why would that witch do this?”

Triaten heaved a sigh. “Helen doesn’t want Ada breeding—ever—and certainly not with you.”

“So Helen put a fucking death sentence on her?”

Triaten nodded, his look grave and just as furious as I was. “It looks that way.”

Aiden caught my eye. “Damen, what I saw on that tape—that was some creepy ass fascination your brother has with her. What’s his deal?”

My feet stopped pacing and I looked at both of them, my blood curdling in my veins. Not a speck of me wanted to confide in either one of these two assholes. But they could make the difference in getting Ada back alive, whole, before Cletus broke her again.

And for that, I would trade this world and the next.

“I have to tell you something.” I heaved a breath. “Cletus…he thinks Ada is his queen.”

Shock registered on both of their faces.

“Why in the fuck would he think that?” Triaten growled out.

I met his glare. “Do you know exactly what Cletus did to her during the war?”

He gave a slight shake of his head. “Bits and pieces of it. She never shared that much. I know it was bad. Unspeakable torture. And I know the bloody stump he turned Lyle into.”

My brow crinkled. “You know about her skin though, right?”

“Yes.”

Both my hands lifted to my eyes, rubbing them with the heels of my palms. “I’d never seen anything like her skin before, which made perfect sense as to why my fucking brother experimented on her, tortured her for so long. Cletus was always the scientist—the fucking mad scientist—wanting to know how and why everything worked. And she was his crown jewel of experiments.”

Aiden heaved a breath and turned toward the bar.
