“Do we have to go?” Bristol asks. A moan passes her lips as I pull out of her slick heat. “Couldn’t we stay here? I mean, as much as I’ve enjoyed what we’ve been doing, I still have some things I need to get done. Like laundry and spend time with Jagger.”

“We can do that all when we get back. I promise we won’t be there all day, but we’re going, Butterfingers. You’re gonna wantto see your sister before she leaves tomorrow.”Bristol nods, but I can see her mind starting to spin, and I’m going to have to put a stop to it. “Don’t, Bristol,” I grunt. “You’re not going to start overthinking shit. You got something on that mind, talk to me.”

“Why are you doing all this? Why did you take my dad’s call? You didn’t want to be a part of that world, and yet you allowed him to bring you into our family problems.” Bristol climbs out of bed, grabs my shirt off the floor, and pulls it over her head. “For that matter, why after all this time, are you doing any of this? You never wanted me before?”

“I’ve always wanted you,” I growl, getting out of bed. I snag my jeans off the floor and yank them on, leaving them unbuttoned. I close the distance between us, gripping her waist with one hand, and her chin with the other. “Don’t even doubt that I didn’t.”

“Yeah, you wanted me, but you refused to do anything about it,” she scoffs.

“Because you were an employee,” I retort, but even I know that’s a lie. One I’ve been telling myself for years. I refused to do anything about it because I didn’t want her to get hurt by the world that I came from. My family isn’t normal. Yeah, they’re wealthy, but that wealth comes with a curse. I didn’t want my past to affect Bristol. Even now the very thought of it scares the shit out of me, however, I’m not about to give her up. I can’t and won’t.

I left months ago in order to get her out of my head, but it didn’t happen. She’s burrowed deep in my skin, and there’s no getting her out. I’ve decided I want to keep her there, and that means not letting her go.

“Whatever.” Bristol rolls her eyes and tries to step away, but I don’t let her.

“It’s not fuckin’ whatever, Bristol, and you damn well know it.” Dropping my grip on her chin, I wrap both arms around herwaist and draw her flush against my front. “But you’re right, that wouldn’t have kept me from getting in your pants, but I knew even then that you mean something to me, and I wasn’t goin’ to fuck that up. You in my life was too damn important, and I wasn’t going to let you get hurt because of my past.”

“And yet you got drawn into my family drama,” she bites out, narrowing her eyes to little slits.

“Yeah, I did, but I don’t give a fuck. Your sister needed help. The club’s doing that for her because they know, on some level, she means something to you, and you mean something to all of us. I could have easily told your dad to fuck off, but I didn’t because the other night you told me he wasn’t like your mom, and I saw that for myself the other day. So damn right, I got involved.” I want to be pissed with her, but I can’t. This was the conversation we needed to have Friday night, but we ended up going straight to fucking.

“I don’t get you.” A look of confusion crosses Bristol’s gaze, and I don’t blame her.

“Look, let’s get through the day at the clubhouse with the cookout, and tonight, I’ll explain things so they’re a bit clearer.”

Bristol’s eyes bore into mine, darting over my face, taking in the sincerity of my words or looking for any sort of deception. Finally, she lets out a breath and nods. “Fine, but you better have a good explanation.”

I grin and kiss her softly. “I promise tonight, we’ll talk, and I’ll give you my reasons for everything.”

CHAPTER 11

BRISTOL

“Hop off, Butterfingers,” Beast says, patting my thigh.

“Okay.” I sigh and let go of his waist, sliding my fingers up to grip his shoulders. I hold on to him to balance myself while climbing off the back of his bike.

No sooner did I get both feet on the ground, I hear Paxton and Sage shouting and running in my direction.

“Auntie Brissy,” Sage squeals. I squat down, arms out, ready for her hug, but nothing can prepare me for both kids to plow right into me, wrapping their arms around my neck and sending me to my bottom. If Beast wasn’t directly behind me, they’d take me the rest of the way to my back. “We mistied you,” Sage announces, stepping back alongside her brother while Beast helps me from the ground.

“I’ve missed you guys too.” I smile, reach out, and run my fingers through the little girl’s curly locks. “I’ll talk to your mom about next weekend, getting you two and having a sleepover at my house. How’s that sound?”

“Fuckin’ fantastic,” Reaper calls out, coming up to scoop Sage in his arms and looking down at Paxton. “Come on, little man, your mom has your plates ready for you.”

“Yay! Hot dogs are the shish,” Paxton yells, pumping his fist.

“Reaper, seriously.” I giggle, unable to help myself. “Ivy is going to kill you.”

“No, she won’t.” Reaper grins and walks off.

“Oh yeah, she will,” I shout, speaking to his back.

Beast wraps an arm around my shoulders, chuckling. “Come on, baby, let’s get over there. I see your dad and brother watching us.”

My steps falter, and I glance around, finding both men standing there in jeans. Jeans. I don’t think I’ve ever seen either of them wear jeans in my life. Well, maybe Ben, but never my dad. Those jeans were even paired with T-shirts, not polos or dress shirts. They look totally normal and definitely not out of place. Sitting down at the table next to them is my sister, and she still looks the same because of the bruises, but she’s wearing a T-shirt dress. I’m sure it’s loose on her for reasons I already know.

“Bristol?” Beast gives my shoulder a squeeze and urges me forward.
