Page 36 of Holding Beast

No one speaks another word as she leaves the room. I get the feeling that though she likes being around the other women, she prefers the children right now. I can’t blame her there.

Beast wraps his arms around my waist from behind. “We’re heading out. If you need me, call. Cerberus and Azrael are staying here with Serpent and Ghost. Gizmo and Minion are going to go pick up Jagger and get some stuff for him to bring here.”

“Okay,” I murmur, twisting in his hold to face him. “I’ll see you when you get back.”

Tilting my head back enough, I let out a sigh when he dips down and kisses me briefly.

“Stay in the clubhouse,” he orders as he lets me go and stalks off toward his brothers.

That sense of unease doesn’t go away, and I want nothing more than to call Beast’s name and tell him not to leave me.

I even open my mouth to do just that but stop myself. He doesn’t need me to freak out on him and demand he not leave me behind. Instead, I clamp my mouth shut and watch him as he goes through the door.

No sooner the door closes behind them all, a loud explosion fills the air and causes all of us in the room to jump as it rocks thebuilding. There’s not a chance for any of us to do more than that before the world comes crashing down around me.

Something heavy hits me, and I barely register anything but the ringing in my ears and the sound of screams and crying of my friends. It’s all I can do to keep from letting myself be dragged down into the depths of unconsciousness. Through the ringing, I can somewhat hear the sounds of men and, if I’m not mistaken, Beast calling my name.

But I’m sure it’s wishful thinking. That first explosion had to have been for the guys, though I’m not completely certain. Everything hurts, and I’m fighting to stay awake. To stay fighting. The others . . . they need me. I need to help them. If only I could move. I would do just that. Unfortunately, I can feel myself being pulled under, unconsciousness taking hold.

The last thing I comprehend is yet another explosion. I only wish that no one else is hurt.

CHAPTER 20

BEAST

The explosion hit hard, and none of us could have seen it coming. My only thought was getting to Bristol, her and the others. The first explosion set us all flying backward having missed us, but instead took out our bikes. The next one is the one that got us through. Not us exactly, but the women. It hit the front of the clubhouse, taking it out.

Rushing through the debris, I search for Bristol and the others. I have a general idea of where they were before the explosion.

“Reaper,” Ivy screams, stumbling to her feet, dust coating her face, tears streaming down her cheeks, and blood marring her forehead. “Paxton and Sage!”

“You take care of them,” Azrael yells out. “We’ll go check on the kids.”

“I’m with him,” Cerberus shouts, following behind them.

“Same here,” Ghost grunts, rushing past me. “We’ll get the kids out.”

“Take them through the back, get them to my house,” Reaper orders.

I tune everyone else out while moving through the room, searching for Bristol.

Making it to the last spot I saw her, I started removing debris out of the way. There’s concrete, brick, and metal all around. Diablo and two others start helping me lift the broken pieces. After what feels like forever, my heart racing in my chest, I not only find her but get her out.

“Get her to the back. We’ll check her over there,” Thanatos shouts from where he’s helping Tombstone with Sutton.

I don’t say anything. I couldn’t, even if I thought I could. My focus is on Bristol and her unconscious form in my arms.

“We’re moving everyone to Prez’s house,” Scythe states, his woman in his arms as well.

“We’ll get everyone there then see to wounds and shit,” Reaper declares, Ivy tucked to his side. “We need to know what the fuck happened here.”

My mind whirls back to what Jezebel said when Azrael and Cerberus dragged her into church and the warning she gave.

Fuck.

This has to be what she was talking about. But who could be behind it? The Scarlet Needles? My family? Bristol’s?

None of this is sitting well with me. Something’s coming and I don’t like the feeling clenching at my gut.
