?"Lizzie, you do need a new phone so bad! That is so sweet of him."

?"Yeah, but I literally just told him last night that my phone has been acting up. Like hours ago, and here I am, holding a new phone. I did also tell him I would get it myself when I have the free time," I explain, exasperated.

?"Well, he has personal assistants, so I'm sure it isn’t a big deal to get that for you in such a short amount of time."

"I know that. It's just…" I trail off, thinking about how getting gifts like this makes me think of my father.

?"Don't say it. I already know what you’re thinking. Miles really cares for you. He wants to spoil you. Technically, it's a safe gift to give because your phone is so awful that it barely works. It isn’t dependable. He is not like your dad,” she says, reassuringly.

?I look down at the box in my hand and realize she’s probably right. I am putting too much thought into this. "I guess you are right." I open the box and take out the phone. “It's so much bigger than the one I have. This must be the newest one there is.” I power it on, and instead of the usual beginning start screen, I see a text.

Miles:Happy birthday, baby. I know you said you could get this yourself, but I wanted to do this for you. This way you can take some great pictures of your special day, and I will have peace of mind knowing that you have a way to get in touch with me any time you need to.

?I smile again, thinking about this sweet man. Even though I feel exasperated with him for getting me this present. I know he means well, and it comes from a place of caring.

?"Well, I guess we need to take a selfie with my new phone to document this day."

?"Yes, ma'am!" she squeals as she comes up beside me, and we pose for the photo. I snap the picture and smile at how great it turns out. I guess it really was time for an upgrade. So… maybe I love this new phone, just a little. Okay, maybe a lot. It is pretty impressive, and I haven't even had time to play with it yet.

?Sarah turns on our Dance Party playlist on the Bluetooth speakers, and I begin to spin and frolic about the apartment. Sarah starts laughing at me but joins in on the fun too.

?“I can’t remember the last time I saw this bright face on your birthday! Let’s get this party started!” she says, then takes my hands and dances around with me. After our short impromptu dance party, we dress quickly and make our way down to Thomas to take us to the spa. I have never been to a spa, so I have no idea what to expect. I wonder what all Miles has arranged for us to do while we are there.

?"I'm nervous," I whisper to Sarah as we drive down the road. She grabs my hand and gives it a small squeeze.

?"This is going to be so great! All I want you to do is relax. Miles put this together to pamper you. It's your birthday, girl!" she emphasizes. I can see the excitement written all over her face. I take a deep breath and know she’s right. Thisisgoing to be awesome!

?The Eden Spa and Salon is known for entertaining the rich and famous, according to a quick search on google, so I certainly feel out of my element when we pull up in front of thebuilding. The outside is sleek and modern with glass double doors that open to what can only be described as an oasis of luxury.

?Thomas comes around to our side of the car, opening the door for us and letting us know that the spa employees will tell him when we are ready to be picked up.Seriously, is this real life?I pinch my arm and let out a whimper. Yes, definitely not a dream. Sarah locks her arm through mine as we walk up to the entrance. An employee is there to open the door for us with an unnaturally happy smile on her face. It makes me chuckle internally. This is totally not me, but it’s sweet of Miles to arrange this for my best friend and me. Most guys won’t think to include their girl’s bestie, or even go through this much trouble for a birthday. It's literally just another day of the week to me, but apparently not to Miles.

?We walk up to the counter. Before I can utter any words, the receptionist says, “Welcome to The Eden Spa and Salon, where all your worries dissolve away. You must be Miss Brighton and Miss McKenzie. We already have your rooms ready per Mr. Knight’s request. Please, follow me.”

?Before I can even confirm our identities, she whisks us away. Sarah is squealing as we walk along and see all the things the spa offers. I look at her with a vexed expression. I feel like I'm walking through a dream. This place is insanely opulent and lavish. I can't help but feel a little uncomfortable being out of my element. I mean, my hair is in a messy bun, and I'm wearing leggings and a sweater, for fuck’s sake. I’m sure they are wondering how I managed to get access to this spa, and I’m sure they all know it was the famous Miles Knight that arranged it. I cringe on the inside. What I must look like.Ugh.

?They take us inside a room that can only be described as something you would see in a queen’s mansion. Gold decadence surrounds the room with lightly colored, opulent upholstery. It looks like nothing should be touched, let alonelie naked on to get a massage. We are instructed to remove our clothes and put on the lavish, warmed white robes they offer to us.WARM! The robes are warm. I can’t even, right?I can't decide if this is comical or outright crazy. People live like this? For real? Did Miles really think this would be something that I would enjoy, or that I am this type of person? I have never done anything this ridiculous in my life. I am not saying that I’m not up for a massage, because I have heard they are amazing, but I’m sure I can find a hole-in-the-wall place that can get the job done.

?While I’m having my inner crisis in my head, I look over at Sarah. She seems super comfortable and relaxed. How is that possible? I need alcohol, like an hour ago. Just when I am about to say just that, servers knock at the door and bring in mimosas on a silver platter with assorted brunch, finger-foods. The whole setup is insane, but I don’t shy away from the mimosa. I down the first and ask for another. I will need it to get through this adventure. When I get the second glass, I swallow a not so lady-like gulp and can feel my jitters start to melt away. Maybe this isn't as bad as I think it will be. Sure, it's something I will never arrange for myself. Just because it's new and somewhat scary doesn't mean I can't enjoy the hell out of it.Cheers to getting my spa on!

A few hours later, they usher Sarah and I to the limo where Thomas is waiting for us. I’m a bit tipsy and my body feels like Jell-O from all the massaging that’s taken place. It may also be from the number of mimosas I drank. Either way, I’m feeling great. I’m not complaining as much as I did when we got there. That is one of the best experiences of my life. I wish I could take one of the masseurs home with me, so I can get a rub down every day. I giggle to myself when that thought crosses my mind.

We get in the car; Thomas takes us back to our apartment. When we reach our door, there is a large boxwaiting. I look at Sarah quizzically, and she just smiles, then unlocks the door. I grab the box and head inside. This birthday is getting crazier by the second. I know Miles said there was going to be another package when we got home, but I figured it would be smaller or maybe, I don’t know, himself. That would be the best gift, but I know he has big plans tonight with the charity gala.

As I place the present down on the coffee table, I stare at it for a moment. I’m not sure why. I’m not expecting anything to pop out of it; it’s just I didn’t expect anything today. Today isn’t a day that I care to remember. I still haven’t gotten a phone call from anyone in my family wishing me a happy birthday. Although, that’s putting too high of a hope on that situation. I guess I am just overwhelmed with everything that he’s already given me, so I'm not sure if I’m ready for something else.

Sarah comes and flops down on the couch, which makes me flop up a bit, and we start laughing. “Well, open it already. I can't stand it. I need to know what else that beau of yours has up his sleeve,” Sarah gushes, as she slides the box closer to me. I roll my eyes, but I’m secretly wondering as well. I pull the same beautiful black lace ribbon off and take the card off, then open it up.

Lizzie,

I can’t wait to see you in this tonight when I pick you up at eight p.m. A few friends of mine will be stopping by to help with anything you need. Happy birthday, darling!

Yours,

Miles

What on Earth is he talking about? He has the charity ball tonight.Oh my… no! Surely, it’s not what I’m thinking. "No way!" I exclaim, as I open the box, unfolding the tissue paper. I gulp when I see a gorgeous silver gown, encrusted with smalldiamonds that make the shapes of delicate snowflakes woven all over the dress. On the bodice there are small snowflakes that are arranged on glittery, silver lace. The lace extends out to the arms of the dress, making it appear to be long-sleeved, even though it’s sheer. Shocked, I hold the dress up to my chest, and then look at Sarah, who is gazing at me with so much excitement in her eyes.

“Did you know about this?"
