?Smiling, I put my phone down and get to work on the piles of work that accumulated while I was out.

Chapter 34

Elizabeth

“Hey momma. Miles and I will be there this weekend on the 21st,” I inform her over the phone.

?“That’s great, sweetie. I was wondering if I was going to have to come up there and drag y’all down here myself. What is your flight information, so I can be there to pick y’all up?”

?“Actually, we are taking Miles’ private jet, and I think he rented a car, so I can show him around but not have to use your car, in case you need it.”

?“He has his own jet? Goodness, Lizzie, I can’t wait to meet this man. I feel like I’ll be meeting a celebrity or something.”

?“Mom, please don’t overdo it. He isn’t a celebrity. At least down there he won’t be. I just want to have a relaxing week, okay? I’ve got to go.”

?“Okay, sweetie. I can’t wait to see y’all. Love you.”

“Love you too, momma.”

?Putting my phone down, I get back to editing my novel. I can’t believe I am almost done with it. I started it so long ago, then my life got derailed by Jacob and his needs until mine didn’t exist anymore. I just stopped writing. Then, after meeting Miles, it’s like I got my second wind, so to speak, and I’ve been writing during any free time I’ve gotten since. Now I am staring at a finished word document with over 120,000 words on it. It’s surreal that this moment is finally here. The only problem I’m having now is producing a pen name. I want it to be one that means something to me, and not justrandom. I was thinking E.M. Austen, since that would take the first letter of mine and Miles’ names and the last name would be the name we confused each other over at the coffee shop. I wanted to pick something that represented both of us since this is our love story. He doesn’t know it yet, and I didn’t really know it when I started writing again, but that’s what it has become. Life imitates art and it’s exactly what our love story has become, art.

?My phone rings, and I look down to see that it’s Thomas. He must be downstairs.

?"Hi, Thomas."

?"Hey there, Miss Lizzie. I’m downstairs whenever you’re ready."

?"Okay, I’ll be right down."

?I hang up the phone and slip it into my pocket. I grab my keys, slide on my boots, and grab my jacket as I head out the door. On the elevator ride down, I contemplate everything that’s happened this month. It's been a whirlwind of romance and suspense, almost like I'm in my very own romance novel. But seriously, I met Miles and everything has been at high speed ever since. I'm excited about going home and relaxing for a few days. I know he’s looking forward to it, as well, because of how hard he’s been working. Stepping out of the elevator, I pull my jacket on and walk out of the lobby toward Thomas where he’s waiting for me with the car. He is taking me back to my apartment, so that I can pack some things to take to Miles', and I also want to spend some time with Sarah. I feel like I haven't seen her since my birthday, even though she has been over to the penthouse to check on me several times. Everything has just been so crazy since then. Jacob is in jail, at least, and I hope he stays there. They found a large amount of cocaine on his person and in his system, which galvanized his attempt at kidnapping. Our lawyers said he could be in there for five to ten years; so, fingers crossed.

?"Good afternoon, Miss Lizzie."

?"Good afternoon, Thomas. Thank you for taking me to my apartment. I could've gotten a cab, but Miles insisted."

?"Of course, he did. A young woman like you doesn'tneed to be riding in taxis around the city, not when I can take you wherever you need to go."

?"Well, thank you again."

?I slide into the back of the car, and Thomas shuts the door behind me. On the way, I pull out my phone and text Miles.

Lizzie:Thomas just picked me up. Heading to my apartment to pack a few things. Then I'll be with Sarah for a while.

?I immediately see text bubbles appear where he's writing me back.

Miles:Sounds good. Elijah sent out the company memo for the holiday, and everyone is going nuts around here. Glad you are getting some time with Sarah.

Lizzie:I'm sure everyone is thinking something is wrong with the Big Bad Miles Knight! Lol! I'm happy for them.

Miles:Yes, well, apparently, that's what love does to you. My brother thought something was wrong too. He will learn soon enough. Evidently, he is 'seeing' someone. I didn't get any more details than that.

Lizzie:Hmm, I wonder if it’s serious?! Anyways, I'm at my apartment. Love you.

Miles:I doubt it. He might be an eternal bachelor. Love you, babe. Have fun, and I'll see you tonight.

?Walking up to my apartment is bittersweet. I'm happy for this new chapter with Miles, but it feels like the end of an era since I won't be living with Sarah any longer. Unlocking the door, I call out for Sarah; but I hear the shower going, so I walk through the living room to my bedroom and sit down on my bed. Looking around at everything that needs to be packed causes panic to start rising in my stomach. The thought of Miles and my relationship not working out scares me, and then what would I do? Would I move back here? Will Sarah have a new roommate by then? Would I have to go back to Savannah? Probably, if my book doesn’t sell, because I wouldn’t have enough money to rent a place on my own.

?I am in a full-blown panic attack when I hear theshower turn off. The bathroom door opens, and I hear Sarah coming in my direction.
