Back to my wardrobe. I wondered if I hadanythingthat wasn’t what Judy would describe as drab, that I didn’t already wear today? After some trifling through the back of my closet, that was a mix ofout of seasonandout of style,I found a few things I’d forgotten about. I picked out a black knee-length skirt, and a satin-finish green top, since it was my best color, next to pink. But since I would be carrying my pink rain jacket, I didn’t want to overdo it. I paired the outfit with dark hosiery and midi black boots that zipped on the side. Putting my hair up in hot rollers, I realized I couldn’t stop thinking about Eli. I wondered who Carolyn was. I wanted to know more about Eli. It was all just too much. So, while my hair cooled, I went to the laptop computer and typed in what I knew.

“Eli x-ray technician podiatrist Newtown”I clicked search. A picture came up from the Newtown News. From the thumbnail it looked like him in the background. I clicked on it.

“James McArty Podiatrist Wins Award”

James McArty, owner of ‘Footnotes’ Podiatry Clinic has won a localachievement for business excellence. Silas Harold, Mayor of Newtown presented McArty with the Local Pioneers award on Thursday for maintaining the highest ratings of Podiatry Clinics in the state.

Skatey? As in,Katie Skatey?I shook my head and let out a howl. Dolly looked up. Well, it was a good thing he wasn’t available or if he was, and we got married… What a hilarious name! I blushed at the thought when I pictured us standing at the altar. What is wrong with me? He’staken.Right?

I pulled open my social media and typed in his name.Eli Skatey.Only three results came back. I knew when my name was searched, hundredsof women with my identity returned.

The first picture was of an older man, zoomed in heavily and taken from the angle of his chin. This unflattering picture wasn’t helping, I wanted to tell him. The second profile didn’t have a picture at all but referenced their location in the United Kingdom. I clicked on the last one of a landscape, opening it up larger to see. Machu Picchu. This was him. I knew it. Looking around the profile, it didn’t show too much information that was public, except his location, Newtown, and his age: 29. I scrolled down to his friends list.

379 Friends.I clicked on the list, typing in the name Carolyn in the search bar.1 result.

Carolyn Jane. Her profile picture was of two different women, so I was upset that I wouldn’t know which one she was, but it didn’t matter. They were both beautiful, more so than I. They each had long, thick hair, one darker, one lighter. Tanned, tall, and fit versus my short, pale, and average build. While I maintained asomewhatslim figure—I knew I couldn’t compete with these ladies. No wonder he asked her to marry him, whichever one she was. I took a deep breath and shut the computer.

Dolly was just getting comfortable in her bed when I covered her up with a blanket. She was tuckered out, which pleased me since I would be leaving tonight. Then I remembered Taylor. One more trip to my laptop; the screen was still up, and I typed in his name.Taylor Wylons.

A profile page came up, Dr. Taylor Wylons DVM. This was him, no mystery about that. Though I was surprised he had his professional abbreviations on his personal page. I clicked on it to see what I was getting myself into, suddenly feeling less enthused than I should. Did I even remember what he looked like? Eli seemed to make my mind forget the rest.

Taylor, I mean, Dr. Taylor seemed confident, borderlinefull of himselfwhile I was with him this morning. I was hesitant to even feel that way because I still wanted something to work out very soon for me, but I was hoping I would feel otherwise after viewing him online. I scrolled for a while; then I realized after looking at his profile, I really didn’t learn anything about who he was as a person. Everything was public, which was nice, but the only thing he shared was veterinarian articles. Only one picture of himself, too, standing next to a very tall older man with the samelarge nose,so I was assuming it was Wylons senior.

This photo, however, hadcomments.

Marcy Lundvall: ‘Looking great as usual.’

Nicholette Mandery: ‘Long time no talk, friend.’

Frank Howard: ‘Jackie says hello to you both.’

I clicked on the top two comments, investigating their profiles briefly. With what little information was displayed, they appeared to be a great fit for my co-workers. Both liked to have fun, maybe alittle too much, dancing on tables, fun. These women would think I was asquare.

He either likes party girls or doesn’t,I thought. But then I remembered something:it doesn’t matter what he likes.God will send me love. I know He will. I just need to be patient.

I went back to my vanity and pulled out my hot rollers. “Oh no!” I rolled them a little too tight, and now I had small ringlets. I ran to the bathroom and put some water on my hairbrush, trying to undo the damage. Thankfully, it started to loosen up, but I couldn’t see around wearing a ponytail tonight, lest I wanted to look like Shirley Temple.

My phone buzzed from the kitchen. “Just a second!” I hollered out as if it could hear me. I ran to the phone, and it was Judy. I answered excitedly. “Well, hello, girly!” She laughed on the other end. “Hi there. How are you?” Her voice was chipper, always making me feel like I was basking in sunlight. “I’m doing great. Are we still on for tomorrow night?”

“That’s why I was calling, dear. Pastor Bill and his wife Julie have asked me to help at the Wednesday night married couples bible study. The gal who normally does the coffee cart is out of town. Well, it’s no surprise they come calling on me. Everyone knows I make the best coffee around. I told them I have a hot social calendar and I’d need to check with you first.”

“Oh, that’s no problem at all! Should we reschedule or just figure it out after church on Sunday? I can’t wait for you to meet my dog.”

“How about you call me in a few days, and we can figure out a time. I don’t want to impose on your bonding.”

I laughed and agreed to call. “That works for me. Say, you want to hear something a little wild? I have a date tonight with Dolly’s veterinarian.”

It sounded like Judy dropped to her knees. “Praise the Lord! He led you to this man! It is all working out for the good of Him, my dear. In that case, tell me everything.”

I went on to tell her about Dr. Taylor and my analysis of his social media. “Everything at this point is from the point of view my mother instilled in me so keep that in mind—stranger danger.”

Judy laughed. “I remember you telling me she’s a bit of a crime sleuth.”

“Yes, very much so, and paranoid to boot! So that’s all I know about him. He asked me out and shocked my senses—I didn’t see it coming at all. But, in hisdefense, how often do you think he sees two ladies in matching pink coats?”

“It was over for him the moment you walked through the door.”
