“I’m happy for you both and hope you get as much out of the services here as I do,” I replied with pure-of-heart intentions. It felt so good to be free from the weight of sin.
Pastor Bill and Julie walked down the aisle, Julie holding her phone up to me. “Katie, your mom just video called. Say hello to her.”
“What? Okay, uh, hi mom!”
“Hi, Katie.”
“What’s up?” I started to whisper, feeling a little unsure, but everyone around wore the same smiles. A tap on my shoulder had me spin around to Eli, who was down on one knee, holding a squeaky toy that looked like a diamond ring.
“Katie Fitzgerald,” my jaw dropped, and I felt tears well up. “After praying for my future wife for years, I knew you were the one the moment I laid eyes on you. These last few weeks have been the best days of my life since finding you. And I don’t need any more time to know that I want you to be my Paw-rtner for life.”
Everyone let out a giggle at that.
“Will you marry me?” He looked at me with his perfect green eyes.
“Yes, I will!”
Clapping and cheering took over. He handed me the squeaky toy, and I laughed again, a few happy tears escaping.
Everyone settled down but I felt like there was more to come.
“Give the toy a squeak, Katie.” Eli was smiling as wide as I’d ever seen. I gave it the biggest squeak I could, and suddenly, running down the aisle was Carter!
“He’s got something for you.” Eli cheered on Carter to make sure he made it all the way over to us and did not get lost in the sea of people.
Carter made it to us and immediately pawed for Eli, wanting to be picked up. Eli obliged but held him out towards me. He was wearing a tiny little blue backpack.
“Go ahead, Katie.”
I reached inside the backpack and pulled out a delicate ring box. Eli waved Julie over, and then my mom was there, too. Inside was a beautiful honey-colored gemstone with two accent diamonds on the sides. It was beyond anything I’d ever seen before, and I loved it. The tears took over again once he slid it on my finger, and it was a perfect fit.
As I looked upon my loved ones around me, I praised the Lord for all that had transpired.
