"Oh hey there, handsome," she said breathily. Her body was built for that bikini, the curves making his mouth water.

He looked her up and down. "I thought you wanted to do more sightseeing this afternoon, but if you'd rather stay here, I can think of a few things we can do in our room."

She grinned and grabbed her fruity cocktail from the poolside table. She sucked on her straw, and his dick twitched at the memory of her lips. He'd thought the more they slept together, the less he'd ache for her. So far, it had just made him crave her more.

"We didn't see the other side of the island yesterday. Do you want to take a drive then end up at the Polynesian Cultural Center for a luau later?"

"You know it, sunshine. Do you need to go change first?"

She grinned and shook her head as she sat up, gathering her pool bag and drink as she stood to face him. "You just want to get me naked again."

He shrugged and stepped closer. "Nothing wrong with that, is there?"

She danced away from him and put the pool bag on the table, thrusting her drink at him. "Nope, but if we're going to do all the things I have planned this afternoon, we need to get going."

He took it, tasting as she pulled her sundress out of her bag and slipped it over her head.

"Such a shame," he sighed as she covered her body. "Contrary to popular belief, I'm not such a horn dog that I only want to get you naked again. As long as I get to spend the afternoon with you, we can do whatever you want."

She slipped on her sandals. "Watch it. If you're not careful, I'll come to expect this kind of attention."

He kissed the side of her head and took her bag so he could link their fingers, setting the now empty drink on the table. "You should expect it. You're a brilliant, beautiful girl. Why you didn't date before is a mystery to me."

He knew she rolled her eyes again but a smile hovered on her lips as she replied, "I told you. No time for guys. Now that I've graduated and have my own place, I hope to change that."

At her words, the fruit taste turned to ash in his mouth. "Oh yeah? What's your plan? Date all the eligible men in Crimson Creek?"

She shrugged and they turned to walk back to their room. "I might as well. I do want a family someday, after all. Do you?"

He let go of her hand and shoved his in his pockets with a frown. "The car's this way. As for kids? I don't know. Amanda and I had talked about it, before she—well, you know. And by talk, I mean argue," he chuckled, trying to keep the mood light as they walked.

Lucy linked their fingers together, and some of the pressure on his chest softened at the touch. He didn't feel the emotions choking him anymore, either. Perhaps there was some truth to letting her go yesterday on the cliff.

He took a deep breath and let the vulnerability come. "We'd talked about having big families, but I wasn't sure about it with my job. I didn't want something to happen to me, and she be left with a big brood of rugrats. She was a secretary for a big law firm and wanted to be a stay at home mom."

They rounded the corner to the parking lot, and his voice lowered. "She should've dated one of those fancy lawyers she worked with. It would've been safer, and she could've had her dream."

Lucy didn't say anything until they were backing out of the parking lot. "Maybe you were her dream," she said softly, staring out the window.

He gripped the steering wheel harder and clenched his teeth. "Definitely not. As much as she wanted to be a stay at home mom, she was a workaholic and loved her job."

Silence descended as he drove. "Do you need to go back to the hotel or do you just want to start the drive around the island?"

She shrugged. "Just drive. There's a special road. Hold on, let me look it up."

The drive was nice and peaceful. They didn't talk much. Instead, they rolled down the windows and opened the sunroof. The salty breeze filled their senses, and every time he looked over at her, a small smile was on her lips.

It made him stay relaxed and in the moment. They stopped at a random food truck and much less crowded beach for a smoothie. Lucy had wanted to dip her toes in the water, but she didn't want to miss the luau tonight.

It was perhaps one of the most relaxing afternoons he'd ever had. No rush to get anywhere, as she made sure they had plenty of time before the next thing to see. Yes, the luau had a time, but other than that, there were no demands on them. No expectations other than to just enjoy the scenery, day, and company.

He reached for her hand and linked their fingers as they drove, content for the first time in a long time.

Chapter 20

The gentle breeze wafted off the ocean as the sun set. They joined the line for the buffet at the cultural center, filled their plates, and found a few seats with a good view of the stage. Soft ukulele music played in the background, and the soft murmur of voices rose around them.

They sat at a little table for four. She liked that they were side by side instead of staring at each other across the flower centerpiece. It was less intimidating talking with him like this, without being face to face.
