“Matvey’s going to help me with something,” Alina says, looking everywhere but at Vitaly. “We’ll be right back.”

Vitaly laughs and smacks my shoulder. Before he walks by, he says, “Take your time. I’ll keep everyone entertained while you’re gone.”

“I don’t doubt that for a second.”

He laughs, and before we turn to leave, I see him grab Katya and yell, “Look at my beautiful, pregnant wife! Come on,ptichka, let’s dance you into an early labor. I’m ready to meet our babies.”

She laughs, knowing he’s not going to tolerate her dancing for more than a few minutes before he’s going to demand she sit down and rest with her feet up. He’s done what he said he was going to do, though, and all the attention is on them as Alina and I sneak inside.

Pulling her downstairs, I pick her up and carry her into our room. As soon as I set her on the bed, she’s reaching for my zipper, but fast is the last thing I want. She sees the look on my face and smiles.

“I promise we’ll take our time later, but right now I need you inside me, Matvey.”

With a groan, I slide my hands up her thighs, bunching her dress up and exposing the white thigh highs she’s wearing. By the time I get to the matching lacy, white panties, I’m so hard I’m straining against my pants.

Lifting up, she works my zipper, freeing my cock and pulling a deep groan from me when she runs her hand along my shaft. Gripping me tightly, she pulls me towards her, spreading her thighs wider before using her other hand to shove her panties aside. The sight of her bare, wet pussy has my dick swelling even more in her grip.

I brace my hands on either side of her, letting her guide mebetween her legs. The birth control shot she’d been on is out of her system, but she hasn’t gotten pregnant yet. The doctor said it could take a while, and we both believe that it’ll happen when it’s supposed to happen. For now, we’re just having fun with it.

She moans my name when I start to slide into her and reaches up to cup my face and pull me closer so she can kiss me. Before she does, she whispers, “I love you, Matvey,” completely undoing me with those four words as her tongue finds mine and she kisses me like she’ll never be able to stop.

It’s heaven being with her, and nothing else will ever compare to it. I bury myself inside my wife, not wanting any distance between us, and I show her just how much I love her. I worship her body. Every thrust, every stroke, every kiss shows her how damn much I love her and need her, because she’s everything to me, every goddamn thing, and I’m going to remind her of that every day for the rest of our lives.

I can’t imagine a better way to spend my life.

Epilogue

One Year Later

Alina

“She’s so beautiful.” I look down at our gorgeous, dark-eyed daughter, amazed at how much I love her. I’m still reeling from this overwhelming, unconditional love that hit me as soon as the doctor put her in my arms.

“She is,” Matvey says, and I smile at the awe in his voice.

My strong, tattooed husband is looking at our daughter with tears in his eyes, and when he leans closer to kiss her tiny head, I start crying even harder because I’m too damn happy to contain it all. He gives me a sweet smile and kisses me gently.

“I’m so proud of you, malishka. You never cease to amaze me.”

“I didn’t have much of a choice,” I remind him. “She was coming no matter what.”

“But you handled it beautifully.” He gives me a wink. “You make a gorgeous mom, baby.”

I smile at how sweet he is and run my finger along our daughter’s cheek. She immediately tries to nurse, so I pull her closer and get hersituated. Matvey watches, a grin playing at his lips as he sees me feed our daughter.

“I didn’t think I could get any happier,” he admits.

I reach out and squeeze his hand. “I didn’t either.”

Yelena looks up at me while she nurses, her eyes the same dark shade as her daddy’s, and all I can think about is how damn grateful I am. I may have had to go through hell to get here, but none of that matters anymore. I no longer have nightmares and Konstantin’s voice no longer haunts my mind. I’m free of him, and anytime the memories threaten to come back, Finn is right there with his big, furry head in my lap, or Matvey is picking me up and reminding me that I’m his and that I’m safe.

The life I have is better than I could’ve ever imagined, and I wouldn’t change a single thing about it. Matvey scoots in closer, wrapping an arm around my shoulder as we watch Yelena. As soon as we found out we were having a girl, Matvey had asked if I’d mind naming her after his sister. I’d smiled and said it was perfect, and it is. It’s the perfect way to honor the aunt she’ll never get to meet.

Matvey runs his thumb over my wrist, the scarred pad tracing the lines of the tattoo I’d gotten after my wrist had healed. I’d tried to slice off the black viper ouroboros, leaving an unsightly scar that I wasn’t quite sure what to do about. Matvey’s scarred, tattooed body had inspired me to tattoo over it—this time one of my own choosing. We’d found a skilled tattoo artist who had the expertise and was willing to spend the time making sure it was exactly how I wanted it. Now, instead of a mangled, old tattoo and a vicious scar, there’s a beautiful phoenix circling my wrist—a vibrant bracelet of fiery reds and oranges. Every time I look at it it’s a vivid reminder that sometimes you can rise from the ashes and be even better than before. Fire doesn’t always have to end in death, and our tragedies don’t always have to define us.

Yelena gives a soft sigh, letting go of my breast as her eyes drift closed. Matvey laughs and reaches for her small body.

“I think she wants her daddy,” he says, picking her up and holdingher against his broad chest so he can pat her back. She looks so cute and tiny in her pink sleeper, cuddled up with her head nestled by his neck.
