I give her ass a soft smack. “We do know, malishka. You were always going to be mine, and I would’ve made my move with or without the black dress.”

She smiles up at me and lets me lead her down the stairs. We pass several of our guys on the way, each one carrying cans of gasoline, and soon the smell is overwhelming. Alina squeezes me tighter, knowing what’s about to happen. We hurry up and get out of the stairwell, and once we’re outside, we both take in a big breath, clearing our lungs of the strong smell.

We cross the street and wait with the others by the SUV. Lev gives us a big smile and a small laugh, but he and Vitaly keep their commentsto themselves since Roman is standing right next to Alina. I doubt he’d see the humor in it like they do.

Smoke starts to billow out of the top of the building, a thick, dark plume that quickly blankets the sky above. Our men hustle out of the main entrance right as we start to see flames erupt and fill the windows along the top floor. My body instinctively tenses at the sight and the familiar crackling sound that soon fills the air around us. Alina steps in front of me and presses her back and ass against me while grabbing my arms and wrapping them around her body so I’m hugging her from behind. She smiles up at me and kisses my cheek as soon as I’m close enough.

“The flames can’t get you anymore,” she whispers near my ear. “I won’t let them.”

I tighten my grip on her and smile. Alina’s been through so much, more than any one person should ever have to endure, but even after all that, I know she’d do anything to keep me safe. She’d risk everything for me, just like I would for her.

She kisses my cheek before looking back at the fire that’s now consuming the building in front of us. Her beautiful face is lit up from the flames, and even as far away as we are, I can still feel the heat from the fire on my skin. My fierce, little protector watches the inferno we’ve created with a smile on her face. Feeling me watching her, she turns her head to look at me.

“You’re the only person who could make a fire beautiful to me,malishka. The light from the flames is dancing across your face, and you have the same determined look in your eyes that you got when you were little and you kept sneaking out to visit me at the hospital.”

She smiles at the memory. “Roman eventually gave up trying to stop me. He knew there was nothing he could do to keep me from you. I couldn’t bear the thought of you being there all alone.” Squeezing my arms around her even tighter, she says, “I would never have stopped trying to get to you.”

“I know you wouldn’t have, baby.”

I kiss her cheek and watch the fire with her until we hear the faint sound of sirens in the distance.

“Let’s get the fuck out of here,” Roman says, opening the door to the SUV.

We follow him into the vehicle with Finn at Alina’s heels, driving away right as several fire trucks come racing down the street with their sirens wailing.

“Yeah, good luck putting that out,” Vitaly says with a laugh.

“There’s going to be a lot of perverts shitting themselves tonight when they hear about the fire.” Lev laughs and looks over at Danil. “Heard anything?”

Danil opens his laptop and starts typing. There’s enough light coming from his screen for me to catch a hint of the smile he’s wearing. “Everyone’s pulling out. There’s messages all over the dark web right now about something being off about this auction. No one’s been able to get in touch with any of the men involved, no money’s been transferred from accounts, and someone heard about the fire over a police scanner, so word is already spreading about it. Convincing everyone the Red Viper fire was an accident was difficult enough, but two more fires in one night? No fucking way. A lot of men involved in the Lebedev sex trafficking ring are dead, and there’s no hiding it anymore. They’re going to run like the fucking cowards they are. They’ll eventually set up a new network, but it’ll take them a while. We haven’t killed the monster, but we’ve managed to slow it down a bit.”

“I’m not sure it can be killed,” Alina says from beside me.

“There will always be men who prey on women.” I wrap my hand around hers and pull her closer. “But you will never be anywhere near them again.”

She thinks about what I’ve said and nods, but I can tell it’s worrying her. I know she wants to go out there and save all of them, but I won’t fucking allow that to happen. I’ll stand by her side and watch her shoot the fucks that we’ve found, but no way in hell am I letting her go out there and put herself at risk to unearth more of them. Over my fucking dead body. I failed her once, and I’ll be damned if I do it again.

Resting her head on my shoulder, I caress her hand and savor the faint taste of her pussy that still sits on my tongue. I relive the moment, going over every vivid detail, and when she feels me start to grow hard, she lets out a soft gasp and looks over at me. I smile and wink before leaning close so my lips are pressing against the shell of her ear and only she can hear me.

“I was just thinking about how badly I want to be smothered by your pussy again.” I nip at her earlobe, smiling at the shiver I feel run through her. “I can still taste you on my tongue, malishka, and it’s fucking delicious.”

Her hand squeezes my thigh when I run my tongue behind her ear and kiss her neck.

“Soon, baby,” I promise her, but it’s just as much for me as it is for her. I’ve waited so long to be inside Alina. I’ve thought of it pretty much nonstop, dreamt about it, and jerked off to the fantasy more times than I can count, but I will never rush her, and as much as I want this, if I’m not a hundred percent convinced that she’s ready, it’s not going to happen. She’ll be pissed, but no way in fuck am I risking her mental well-being just so I can get off. I’d never forgive myself if I ever do anything to make things worse for her.

When we’re back in the parking garage, we all pile out and head for the elevator, but Vitaly surprises me by grabbing my arm and holding me back. Alina and Finn stop, looking back to see what’s going on. Vitaly smiles and waves a hand at her.

“We’ll be up in a second, Alina. I just need to talk to Matvey for a minute.”

She raises a brow, curious about what he’s up to, but when I smile at her, she gives Finn’s head a pat and gets onto the elevator with the others. Once the doors close and I can no longer see her, I turn to Vitaly.

“What are you up to?”

Vitaly laughs, and even though we’re getting damn close to thirty, I still see the fifteen-year-old smartass in the smile he gives me. I’m close to all my brothers, but it was Vitaly who heard me screaming the nightof the fire, and he was the one who risked his life to get me out of it. I feel a stab of guilt every time I see the scars it left on his hands, but he’s never once made me feel bad about it. When I’d tried to apologize once, he’d shook his head and told me to shut the fuck up, and then he’d said girls love scars and it made him look like a badass. Nothing ever gets Vitaly down, not really anyway. He’s the cheeriest motherfucker I know.

He scrubs a hand over his jaw and gives me a shit-eating grin. “I heard what was going on in that room tonight, and I saw how you couldn’t keep your hands off one another on the drive back.” He gives another laugh, and the amusement in his eyes makes me groan. “I thought maybe we should have a talk.”

“Don’t fucking say it.” I shake my head and start walking to the elevator.
