My house? Axe is in the same hall as I am? “Hope the school has flood insurance ‘cause I’ll be busy making rivers on the seventh floor, knowing he’s there.”

By the fucking Book of Grace…

I’d kill to have the Flames spirit me back to Celestus right now. I didn’t even get a warning for that one.

The stunned silence stretches into several seconds, and I start in on my well-rehearsed speech. “I’m sorry. I have this thing?—”

But it’s cut short as all three of them erupt with laughter.

Austin’s laughing so hard, Jess shakes in his lap, and Stevie’s waving her hand in the air, holding her nose like she’s about to shoot coffee out of it.

“Girl, join the club. The whole student body would sell their soul to bone him, regardless of orientation,” Stevie says, wiping her nose.

Austin nods. “I’m straight, and even I would do him.”

“Lucky for us, he only dates demons,” Jess says with a wink.

My eyes bug out, and my face grows warm while Stevie and Jess share a conspiratorial glance. I clear my throat loud enough to draw their attention away from whatever silent discussion they were having. “Anyway, what about the other ones?” I ask Stevie.

“Hang on, let me finish with Axe. Not only is he the head of Pride, he’s also maintained top of the class since his freshman year while also training to take over for his father.”

“Take over what?”

“The family business,” Jess says. “Lucien Axwell is the head of the Cinder City Syndicate.”

So they weren’t joking about the mafia thing.

Stevie moves on to the next heir. “Now, the big one with the scar…”

“The one who called Axe boss?” I ask, to be certain.

Stevie nods. “Sebastian Black, but everyone calls him Bastian. He’s the head of Wrath Hall and the next in line to be the head enforcer of the Syndicate.”

“Well, I guess he’s built for it.”

Austin raises his drink toward me. “And I never see him at the gym, either. I think he’s just built that way.”

That information does something strange to my insides. I move right along. “OK. And the long-haired one?”

Stevie sucks in a long breath, like she has to prepare to tell me this demon’s name. “That’s Dashel Knight.”

“Steer clear of that one,” Jess says, and squeezes Austin tight.

Unfortunately, that’s not in the plan. “What? Why?”

Stevie leans forward, and I can’t help mirroring the movement. “The rumor is Dash is a latent succubus demon.”

Jess nods. “Which totally tracks since he’s the head of Lust hall, and he’ll be taking over as head of sex work in the Syndicate.”

I bite down on my tongue because the things that information does to my body means there’s definitely an inappropriate quip brewing.

One more.

I didn’t get a good look at the last head. Honestly, I can’t recall whether he spoke at all.

“Then there’s Enzo Skinner.” Stevie starts to say more, but Austin clears his throat, catching my eye.

He glares at me, ferociousness roiling in his gaze like a wild and savage beast. “Whatever you do, stay away from him. The fucker is completely unhinged.”
