How am I just noticing that Dashel’s hair is the same exact color as his eyes?

“And I don’t dislike you, Dove.”

“Then why?—”

Dashel shakes his head. “It’s not important,” he whispers.

“Come on, Dashel. You’ve gotta give me something here. Besides, you still owe me an explanation for your creep and snub bullshit.” I release my knees and lean forward, angling the smallest bit closer to him. “And talking to you is the first timeI haven’t been thinking about… the thing that happened since it happened.”

Dashel swallows, nodding. “I assumed something about you that wasn’t true. Projected my insecurities where I shouldn’t have.”

I nod. That’s not something I expected him to say. “It’s hard to believe a gorgeous succubus demon heir has insecurities.”

Dashel stiffens. His nostrils flare as he takes a deep breath. “Dove, I am not a succubus. That’s a rumor the witches started for no reason other than I’m attractive.”

“Oh. I’m sorry.”

“Further, succubi are the females of that class of demons. If I were, I’d be called an incubus.”

“Huh, really. But everyone says?—”

Dashel nods. “Yes, everyone calls them the wrong thing, and for them, it’s easier to let it go.”

“So, you’re not a sex demon, then?”

For the first time since entering my room, Dashel smiles at me. “Oh, no, Dove. I am. I’m just not a loathsome incubus.”

I scoot off the chair, onto the floor in front of him, thoroughly distracted and completely intrigued. “What are you, then?”

“I’m a lost heir.”

I shake my head. “What does that mean.”

Dashel casts his gaze downward with a heavy sigh. “Dove, I didn’t come here to tell you my dark and troubled backstory. I came so you knew you weren’t alone.”

I shrug. “Well, so far, your dark secrets are the only thing keeping mine silent.”

Dashel sighs, lines forming between his brows as he searches my eyes. Looking for whether he can trust me with his pain. “I wasn’t born on Cinder Realm but on an outer fae realm calledIoglaecia.”

An outer realm calledIoglaecia?

Are there more than the seven realms I learned? Eight counting Celestus?

Two human: Earth and Terra.

Three demon: Cinder Realm, Realm Fractum and Realm Vitrum.

Two fae: Tir Na NÓg and Tir Tairngire

And Celestus, the only angel realm.

“What’s wrong? You look like your brain is melting.”

“Heh, nothing. Please, go on.”

Dashel eyes me but continues. “Right. I grew up onIoglaeciathinking I was the worst example of fae genes to exist. My magic came far earlier than the other fae children’s. The spells and power words they taught felt awkward and unwieldy. And I don’t exactly meet fae beauty standards. Fae girls wanted nothing to do with me.”

Dashel takes another deep breath and pulls his hands through his hair. “In public, that is.”
