Knowing what he did now, he would have rather kept it affordable for everyone. Unfortunately, the money had been a big lure to a kid who scrimped for every dime to get to college. He had amazing parents, but they were a waitress and bartender in a small family-owned restaurant.

Exactly the kind of place he’d designed the app to help.

He just hadn’t been prepared for it to take off like it did. Being able to take care of his family had been paramount at the time. Honestly, he wouldn’t change a thing. He was just much more careful about what he did with his money and his programming skills these days.

He parked her car behind his Jeep at the top of the driveway.

“What is it exactly that you do, Vance?”

He leaned into her, her eyes widening before the lids lowered in that sleepy way he was getting addicted to. A half a breath away from her mouth he whispered, “Nothing.”

She jerked back. “Pardon?”

He shrugged. “I’m actually independently wealthy.”

Her eyes narrowed. “Is that code for drug dealer?”

He laughed. “No. Truly.”

“You don’t do anything?”

“Not right now. I haven’t found the next project I want to get involved in.” He got out and rounded the car to open her door.

She took his hand and he navigated her out and up to the front door of his house. Her eyes were wide again. On the scale of one to ostentatious, he was probably a four. He preferred his smaller house with his killer view, but his architectural style was unique. Sloping angles and vaulted ceilings with lots of natural light in the daytime, blazing chandeliers in the evening.

Her expression was a little shell-shocked. Again, it was nice to show off without the assumption that she was calculating his net worth like when he lived in Manhattan. His name on one of those richest eligible bachelor lists had ruined his dating life for a few years.

Finally, he’d been forgotten, but not before he’d managed to make a lot of mistakes in selecting women to get involved with. One of a host of reasons he hadn’t had a serious relationship in three years.

“Why don’t you take a look out on the patio and I’ll grab us some wine?”

She blinked up at him. “Yeah, okay.”

He selected a bold merlot from his wine wall, snagged a couple of large glasses, a wedge of brie from the fridge, and a box of crackers. He let the wine breathe as he fixed them a small snack. Within five minutes, he followed her out to the back. Her sandals lay on their sides at the edge of his porch. She stood atthe natural half wall of the rocky cove that bordered his house, her toes buried in the sandy terrain. His shirttails fluttered around her hips, hiding her shorts just enough to make his chest hurt.

There was something infinitely sexy about her wearing his clothes. Something he didn’t want to examine too closely.

He dropped off the plate on the table, poured a glass for both of them, and followed her down. “Found the reason I bought the house, I see.”

She accepted the glass. “Yeah. I thought it was the house itself, but this is definitely the reason.”

He leaned on the shale. “You’re ridiculously beautiful, Goldie.”

She took a sip from her wineglass. “Thank you?”

“No question mark. In fact, you look really good in my space.”

“How many times have you used that line?”

He grinned behind the lip of his glass. “Not as many times as you think.”

“So, is this family money or something?”

“No. I made it.”

“Do I have to use a different set of feminine wiles to get the details out of you?”

“Now that you mention it…”
