Presley:

You beautiful man. My dad is still here.

I’ll try not to ravage you on your desk.

Presley:

I can’t find my desk. ??

Let me in. I promise I’m creative.

Presley:

I just bet you are. I’ll buzz you in the side door.

He tucked his phone into his pocket and gathered the bags. He locked up his Jeep and crossed the street. The loudbzzztmade him look up at her window again. She waved down at him with a tired smile.

It was time to cheer up his girl.

Nine

Presley padded barefootout into the main office. “Pop?”

“Yes?”

“Um, I have a friend coming up. He brought us dinner.”

Her father looked up from the ledger he was reviewing. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t get him to change over to a spreadsheet. He didn’t trust computers, which was another reason she hadn’t been able to sell him on upgrading their current system.

He set his glasses on the page. “Is this the man you met last night?”

“Yes. Please don’t embarrass me, okay?” She quickened her step to the door and opened it.

The pungent scent of chorizo and El Rey’s special seasoning made her stomach roar.

“Damn, Goldie. I heard that from down here.”

She slid her hand over her middle. “I didn’t get to eat anything more than a bag of Skittles all day.”

He climbed the stairs and she had to admit the man was as delectable as the food he was delivering. Vance wore a slimleather jacket over a Frank Turner concert T-shirt with ancient jeans and boots.

“Let me rectify that. I brought enough for sharing.” He dangled the bag in front of her. When she reached for it, he pulled it up out of reach. “I need my tip.”

“Just the tip?”

His honey-gold eyes heated. “That tip’s for later.”

She smiled and went up on her toes and brushed a kiss along his jaw.

“I think I’m getting short-changed.”

She twisted her fingers into his shirt and dragged him down so she could reach his mouth. But instead of the aggressive kiss that her grip implied, it was a barely there touch.

His arm snaked around her waist.

“My father,” she reminded him against his mouth.

He stood up straight and handed her the bag. “I’ll collect payment later.” When she turned away, he snagged her belt loop and dragged her back a step. “And you’ll pay,” he said low into her ear.
