Being a troll is a part of my personality I haven’t shared with anyone, so if he figures it out, that will be like he stole one of my treasures when I wasn’t looking. Do I think he’ll tell anyone else these suspicions? What if it gets back to other people? Back to my real life?

My identity is Shreya's quiet and unremarkable, but also polite and amenable daughter. That's the image that is set to belaunched into the movies. That's the image I've built for so many years.

His hand ghosts over my face. “Are you okay?”

“I’m wondering how long your creep mode has been active for.”

He scowls. “Excuse me?”

“Why are you creeping me?”

“Why am I doing my job?”

My arms cross. “I thought the parameters of your job had changed on this trip. Like how you’re supposed to go away when I want to get—get a shag in.”

“Did you?” he asks, his voice so utterly frosty but polite. “Did you get a shag in?”

Maniacal laughter plays in my head. “I’m ninety-nine percent sure I briefly passed into the afterlife. And Judd was going to get me water because I needed rehydration from all my climaxing.”

“Before or after the soap fell?”

I stare long enough that it startles a rough laugh out of Huan.

“You’re grinding again.”

I poke at his chest, which is very solid. “Is there an off switch? Stop watching me.”

“I can’t.”

Not won’t, but can’t.

Is it a threat or a promise?

Doesn’t matter because it’s an empty one, for Huan steps away from me and stalks off. Everything I know about Huan tells me he wasn’t done, so where did he?—

I dash after him.

“You're not supposed to be in there,” I yell through the half-ajar door of the bathroom. My bathroom where the bleeding happened. The one Huan found immediately because, unfortunately for me, it’s the first loo in the area.

He doesn’t answer.

I go inside, squeezing to a spot beside him. I wonder what he’s staring at until my eyes land on a streak of blood the size of a thumbprint. No evidence of spilled soap on the ground, either.

“He hurt you?” he asks in a mild tone that I don’t trust.

Instead of being smart and denying it, I blurt out, “You’ve got to be reasonable about this.”

Huan turns and I gasp. The way his expression darkens, I just know he’s going to go hunt Judd down, and I know Judd will crumble against the sheer force of my bodyguard. So I yank the door shut behind us and click the lock on. My arms spread like I’ve got double the limbs and triple my body weight.

Huan steps forward. His eyes are steeped holes of promise, and if I look too long into them, I’ll fall in.

“Remember, Huan, our agreement?—”

He shakes his head. “I’ll pretend you aren’t important about everything else, Komal. But this—this is physical. It’s my duty to protect you from any pain.”

“Not from failed sex!”

Now, he’s grinding his teeth. “He won’t get away with this.”
