We’ve fallen into a routine that involves sneaking around campus, texting at night, talking on the phone until sunrise.
I meet him at the train station to catch the first and last ride on weekends. I sit on his lap whenever we have the tram to ourselves, and when we don’t, his knees touch mine.
My senior activities are long forgotten, and I couldn’t care less that I never made a single friend at this school.

“Ladies and gentlemen, the next stop is Station Y, Manhattan, New York,” the speaker system says. “If this is your final destination, please ensure that you have all of your personal belongings before disembarking.”
I grab my backpack and head to the doors.
Once they glide open, I rush onto the platform. Cutting through the crowd, I run through the crosswalk and down the closest subway station.
The L train huffs with one last offer and I rush onboard before it takes off.

I close my inbox and pull up the event site one last time as the subway lurches forward.
The Chrysler Building’slobby gleams with my every step, and I bypass security and make it to the elevators.
