My freedom isn’t worth?—

A clipping sound startles me, and a cold metal whispers over my wrist. I break the stare, and to my right, I see… a shiny handcuff binding me to… him. Him? I yelp, moving my wrist, the metal biting into my flesh. “What the hell?”

“This is insurance that we’ll make an uneventful trip back. Together.”

Damn the man. I should have kneed his nuts earlier. Now he’s next to me rather than in front of me, and hitting him where it hurts will be more difficult. Still, I fidget, thrashing my wrist from side to side, thumping my feet on the ground.

“Let me go,” I say. “Now,” I add louder. “Right now!”

“Sienna. You can scream all you want. I’m leaving this room with you.”

I take a deep breath, then scream, “Help?—”

“Lisa Preston,” he cuts me off, unbothered. “Your roommate. She has two loving parents who live an hour away. They have a Maine coon cat called Boots.”

My heart misses a beat. I know where this conversation is going, and I don’t like it. “What—what do you mean?”

He lifts an eyebrow. “If you don’t come with me, she’ll be hurt. And possibly them.”

Poor Lisa. A chilly sensation leaks into my stomach. Could Matteo hurt Lisa? Yes. I don’t know him that well. Why would he help a stranger? It’s clear the years working for my father have hardened him. “You’re disgusting.”

“This is bigger than you and me, Sienna. If you want your roommate to live, come with me. You can call or text when we get to Chicago and let her know a family emergency pulled you away indefinitely.”

This is a family emergency, all right.Panic rises inside me, flashbacks to all those times I had to do as my father said. Why would that be any different now? Hot tears jab behind my eyes, and my lips tremble. Shoulders slouched, I look at the floor.

This man will do anything to take me back to my father. He might hurt Lisa or her family to prove a point. I can’t put her safety in jeopardy. I couldn’t live with myself. “Fine,” I say in a low voice. “I’ll go, but you don’t ever say her name again.”

“Deal.”

I shake my head. He won’t kill me because if he did, he’d be a dead man himself, but he might hurt me. Why the hell should he not? My father killed his. I’m sure treating me nicely isn’t at the top of his priority list. I’m no more than a task. His last ticket to freedom—even if that means my imprisonment.

“I need to use the restroom,”Sienna says, glancing down at the handcuffs linking us.

I skim our surroundings. We’ve been in the private jet for thirty minutes. She can’t run. I reach into my pant pocket to retrieve the key, unlock it, and set her free. She can’t take over this jet even if she wants to—I’ve warned the flight attendant. All employees of Mancini, even outsourced ones, know not to cross him.

Sienna stands and slowly walks to the restroom in the back.

My chest feels tight, and it’s like I’m two feet tall. Threatening her roommate gave me no pleasure, but I needed to complete this mission. I didn’t get to where I am by feeling sorry for people. Even if I do, the harshness of being Antonio’s head of security has taught me to bottle up any compassion.

Still.

Sienna looks defeated. Doesn’t feel like a win to see her this way. But I get it. She can’t exactly be happy about having to marry a gross dude against her will.

She returns a few minutes later, her face damp like she ran cold water on it. Her eyes are red, cheeks flushed. Damn it. Even after crying, this woman is beautiful.

Medium height, with a curvy body. Epic tits, narrow waist, and curvy hips with an ass that won’t quit. Desire stirs deep inside me.

I shake my head.

No.

She’s about the last woman on the face of the Earth I can fuck.

Once this assignment is over, I’ll find someone. Scratch the itch. And move on.
