Throwing my bike into gear, I rev my engine and take off, heading back to the clubhouse, my mind still running over the things Haven did to me last night.

One night only, Alpha.

One night only!

CHAPTER SEVEN

Alpha

The clubhouse gates open, and I ride in with a little more grunt than necessary, almost skidding to a stop in my position. Cutting the engine, I throw my leg over my ride, take a deep breath, and begin the walk of shame inside the club. The smell of breakfast lingers in the air as I enter, and I make my way to my usual table, taking a seat. My head is still hazy from the copious amounts of alcohol I consumed last night.

Navy steps up with my breakfast, placing it in front of me. “Wasn’t sure if you were gonna make it in for breakfast this morning, Pres.”

Side-eyeing her as she smirks, I scowl. “Don’t start. I’m gonna cop enough flak from the boys. You’re supposed to be the one I can count on to be on my side.”

She grips my shoulder with a warm smile. “Look, as long as you had a good time, that’s all I care about. And from the smell of you this morning, you had arealgood time.”

Turning up my nose, I subtly sniff myself, and she giggles, leaning in closer. “It’s not just the tequila you smell of, Pres. Might wanna have a shower after breakfast. I can smell herallllllover you.”

Navy stands, winking at me, and I clear my throat, wiping at my beard. “Thanks.”

She squeezes my shoulder again. “I got your back. Now, eat up,” she chimes, then turns, walking off to the kitchen.

Grabbing some greasy bacon, I consume it quickly, needing not only the protein hit but the layer of fat to line my stomach from the acute alcohol poisoning. After my intense workout last night, I fucking need this breakfast.

I’m almost halfway through my meal when Swift slides in beside me. His nose turns up as he lets out a small laugh. “Jesus, Pres. No offense, but you wreak.”

“So I keep being told.”

Swift places his hands on the table in front of me and exhales. “Word filtered back that you took out the shipment. We saw on the daily news that the truck had gone down in the Sheldon Basin and exploded. Loki hacked the police report, and it said there was a huge shipment of product on board hidden in the vineyard produce. You stopped it from crossing the border into Tijuana, Pres. Rico won’t be happy.”

“How’s he even going to know it was me?” I ask.

Swift shrugs. “Well, that’s true. But just in case, the club needs you to be extra careful now. Pres, we know you find it easier to do shit on your own, but we’re a brotherhood. You’re supposed to lean on us for support. For morale, the rest of the guys gotta know you can lean on them.”

I hear him.

He’s been telling me this for ages.

I’m not sure why it took Haven reinforcing it for me to see, but Idosee it now.

“I hear you. I want to do better. I know I’ve been caught up in my own shit. Losing Poppy… it broke shit in me. But I’m trying to get back to the president I was before that fucking day. I need to, Ihaveto.”

Swift slaps my back. “Glad to hear it. It’s going to benefit the club in the end.”

“So, has Loki kept an eye on Rico and his movements since I totaled their truck yesterday?”

“We’ve all been on edge since you took off. Pres… the guys are rattled.” He narrows his eyes on me, and I hear what he subtly tells me without him having to say it.

I need to step up.

Right now.

I flew off the handle, taking shit into my own hands, and left my club hanging in the dark and vulnerable.

That’s not fucking right.

I need to fix this.
