I hear what she is saying. By taking ‘care’ of the brothers, I’m fairly certain that means sexually too. On missions, I have had to sleep with my targets and get paid for that. So, who am I to judge getting paid to sleep with men? Hell, that’s my mission right now with Alpha—make him fall in love with me. I can’t do that without more of our unbelievable, earth-shattering, body-quivering sex.
And I amnotcomplaining one little bit about that.
“Well, I think that sounds like a pretty fucking good deal to me,” I tell her.
A slow smile crosses her face like she wasn’t expecting me to say that, as if she was fully expecting me to judge her for her life choices.
I kill for a living.
At least she’s working and trying to study to make somethingof her life.
On the other hand, I am beholden to an authority much more powerful than I am. An organization I can’t break free from until they let me. I was handed over to this world of elite women assassins and forced to either cooperate or die—those were my options.

I chose to flourish.
Now, I’m seeing another side of life and am beginning to question the code I stand by.
She thrusts her hand out for me to shake. I reach for it, and she smiles wide. “I’m Navy, head club girl. This is Hope. Indigo is still in training, but she’s picking up everything pretty quickly.”
Hope and Indigo both dip their heads at me with bright smiles on their faces.
“It’s really nice to meet all of you, and thank you for welcoming me in. You didn’t have to. I can see this place is a tight-knit family. You didn’t have to be that welcoming to some new chick showing up out of the blue.”
“That’s just like these guys though, Haven. When Mav and I showed up, they took us in with open arms. Honestly, I was really worried about changing clubs. I had friends in New Orleans, and I knew no one here. I was concerned about coming to a new place with new people, but Rhyan has been so good to me, and Mav has settled in with the brothers really well. Don’t get me wrong, I love NOLA, but there’s just something exciting about being in Los Angeles. So many possibilities, you know?” Clover states.
I can’t help but smile. She’s so full of life and has great energy surrounding her. I warm to this girl instantly as Ellie reaches out, grabbing Clover’s hand. “We love having you here, Clo.”
Rhyan dips her chin, wrapping her arm around her friend. “Absolutely. It’s really nice having someone around my age who I can hang out with.”
“How old are you girls?” I ask out of curiosity.
“I’m seventeen,” Clover replies.
“Just turned twenty,” Rhyan adds.
Titling my head, I let out a small chuckle. “Enjoy your youth, ladies. When you start having to adult, the world getsa lotharder,” I tell them honestly.
Ellie, Navy, Hope, and Indigo all chuckle like they know exactly what I am talking about. But it is Rhyan that furrows her brows. “But honestly, you don’t look much older than me?”
Shrugging, I exhale. “I’m twenty-five, but I had to grow up fast. So my advice is, if you can keep your youth, then do it. Don’t be in a rush to grow up because once you do, there’s no going back to the innocence of childhood, and trust me, childhood issucha good place.”
“Amen, sister.” Ellie snorts out a laugh.
Navy nods along with me as she wipes down a glass.
“There are pros to growing up though, right?” Rhyan asks.
“I mean, yeah. But they will be there when the time is right. Don’t rush it.Trust me.You have a great support system around you, Rhyan. You have parents who clearly love you. Lean on them while you can. Not everyone is lucky enough to have their parents.”
Clover’s eyes droop, and she nods. “Yeah, that’s so true. You’re very lucky, Rhy.”
Rhyan reaches out, grabbing Clover’s hand, and she weakly smiles at her. “You have Mav, and he loves you more than anything. I know you miss your mom, but we can share mine, right, Mom?”
I smile as Ellie reaches over, taking Clover’s hand in hers. “Of course, baby girl. You can think of me as your adopted motherany time you want to.”
