“Don’t you dare call me crazy!” Her glare is intense, so I raise my hands to appease her.

“Wouldn’t dream of it. What I mean to say is, I don’t know if the concussion was making your inhibitions less or if you were just in the zone last night, but you were…wild.Don’t get me wrong, little lamb. Ireallyfucking liked it.” My hand slides across the dried blood marks marring my chest from the scars her nails left behind.

Her eyes follow my movement, and she exhales like the weight of the world is still on her shoulders. “Thank you for taking care of me, and for fixing my bike… and for showing me arealgood time.”

A sinking feeling in my gut tells me that if I let her leave, I’m never going to see her again, and I don’t know if I’m okay with that. I’ve felt fucking lost, so alone since Poppy died. Since I lostthe last shred of hope I had in this world.

I’ve been surviving, but I haven’t been living.

Since I met Haven, there’s been a spark igniting inside me, and even though it’s only a flicker right now, I don’t want that spark to be extinguished. “I get the feeling you want to hightail it out of here as fast as you can, but you haven’t eaten since early yesterday. Let us give you a decent breakfast, and you can say goodbye to everyone properly. Don’t sneak out. You deserve better than that, Haven.”

Her shoulders slump like she wasn’t expecting me to say that, and for a moment, briefly a second, I think I see her eyes glistening like she wants to cry. But as soon as I think I notice it, it’s gone again.

She’s an enigma.

One I can’t quite wrap my head around.

She likes animals, she’s talented with weapons, and she’s extremely fucking smart. There’s more to her than she is letting on, and I want to learn everything I can about her.

I just need a little more time.

Haven exhales, relaxing her posture and concedes. “Okay. But only because I like everyone out there and want to say a proper goodbye to them. It’s got nothing to do with your egotistical ass.”

I snort out a laugh. “Of course not. And I can hardly stand you if we’re being honest.”

A slow grin forms on her face, the Haven I know returning to me. She slowly leans in, pressing her lips to mine. My lips tingle. The hint of fire burns inside me again when I slide my hand up into her hair, holding her to me. My tongue collides with hers as we kiss more passionately.

A slow groan escapes me, my cock beginning to harden. I move to shift Haven back to the bed, and she clamps down on my bottom lip, biting hard. The tang of metallic blood lingers in my mouth when I jerk back from her, a smile wide on her face.“The fuck?” I grunt.

She pushes my shoulders back from her and moves to stand, gloriously naked from the bed. “I thought we were getting breakfast?”

Slumping on the mattress, my cock still fucking rock-hard, I let out a groan. “Urgh, fine. You’re a fucking devil woman.”

She snorts out a laugh and moves for her clothes. “So I’ve been told. Now get up. I need some bacon and maybe pancakes. Definitely coffee.”

I climb out of bed and reach for my jeans to pull them on. “When we played pool that night at the bar, you said you were between jobs. Have you found anything yet?”

She shakes her head. “Still looking. If you know anyone who needs a girl specializing in animal sciences with a major in agricultural studies, keep me in mind.”

“We haven’t had many… pleasantries, but since I haven’t asked, what’s your surname?”

She glances over her shoulder. “Eleutheria,” she simply states.

“That’s a mouthful. Sounds like a Greek goddess’ name.”

She chuckles, waggling her brows. “Maybe I am?”

“Does it mean something?” I ask out of curiosity.

“You’re right. It’s Ancient Greek, and translated, it means the personification of liberty.”

Moving over to her, now fully dressed, I reach out for her hand. She lets me take it while I stare into her eyes. “I like it. Haven Eleutheria.”

She drops eye contact, clears her throat, and walks us to the door. “C’mon. Let’s get some breakfast.”

Nodding, I follow behind her. I can’t help it when my eyes fall to watch her toned ass as it sways in front of me while we walk out the door to the stairs and head for the main room of the clubhouse. The smell of breakfast is already wafting through theair.

We reach the bottom of the stairs and I signal for her to go to my usual table. She starts heading off, and I stop walking. “I’ll catch up with you in a sec. Navy will come over to grab your order. Get whatever you want.”
