Inhaling a deep breath, I decide to go for it. If there’s any of the brothers I know will do the right thing for the right cause, it’s Rip. “I know for a fact that Alpha’s daughter, Poppy, is still alive.I’m heading out to bring her back right now. It’s going to take me quite a few hours to do this. It’s at least three hours for me to get to where she is and then three hours back, but I need you to let me out of here in the van to do this. Then, when I bring her back, I need you to let me drop her off and then let me go again without question.”

He stares at me like he is processing all this through his mind. He raises his finger, looking up, then nods. “Okay, got it. Righteous.”

I widen my eyes. “You don’t haveanyquestions?”

Rip shakes his head. “Nah, brah. You’re gonna bring back that little ray of sunshine. My shaman said Poppy wasn’t dead. Shecouldn’tfeel her spirit, so you know, thistotallytracks.”

If there was anyone I wanted on the gate tonight, it would be Rip.I’m so fucking lucky.

Leaning up on my toes, I kiss his cheek lightly. “Thank you. Thanks for believing me.”

He chuckles. “No problem, Betty. Your aura is totally blue right now, by the way.”

Raising my brow, I shrug in confusion. “I don’t know what that means?”

He smiles. “Blue signifies someone dependable, someone with like, really killer strength. Blue is all about the throat chakra, so like… blue auras tend to be trusted friends, good communicators, and truth tellers. Gnarly, right?”

My eyebrows draw together, but I nod. “Totally gnarly. Rip, you’re a cool guy. Anyone tell you that?”

He chuckles. “Yeah, sure, Betty, all the freaking time. I’m a surfing biker, what’s not to love?”

Smiling, I nudge his shoulder, then turn, heading back for the van.

“Hey, Haven?” he calls, and I turn back to face him.

“Yeah?”

“Good luck catching the grommet. Though I have a feeling you’re not gonna need it.”

Smiling, I dip my head at him before I turn back for the van, opening the door to jump in.

I have a long drive ahead of me.

Now, I need to plan how to get into The Nest without raising suspicion.

This isnotgoing to be fun.

CHAPTER EIGHTEEN

Haven

Three Hours Later

The entire drive back to the Tijuana border has my insides crawling with anxiety.

Neverhave Ieverthought of betraying The Nest.

I grew up there.

For better or worse, they are my family.

What I’m about to do will rock their foundations.

If I can achieve my end goal and get away with it.

Pulling into the checkpoint, the guard spots me, and I place my hand on the fingerprint scanner. He checks me up and down as I hold my bird necklace and show it to him. He nods, and the scanner clears, allowing me access. I drive into the compound, going to my usual parking space. Hopping out of the van, I pull my hoodie over my head, even though the internal cameras would have already spotted me, though it wouldn’t have set off any alarms. Being here is not suspicious. However, it is abnormal, considering I should be on a mission.

Making my way over to the control panel at the base of the elevators, I pull out a small blade to unfasten the screws holding the door on. If the lock isn’t unlocked on the righthand panel, it won’t trigger the alarm. But the failsafe activates if the door comes off at the hinges on the other side. All bets are off if the lock stays intact. So I need to do this efficiently and quickly.
