I raise my brow at him. “Twice!”

“Yeah, twice.” He snorts. “But in my defense, you did tell menotto do anything stupid.”

“Okay, asshole. Let’s go.” I grab his hand and start pulling him toward Crow’s office, with him chuckling behind me. I lead him over to Crow, lean down, and yank the knife from the back of her head as I squat beside her, picking up her right hand. “Thanks for your help, Crow,” I tell her, then begin hacking at her wrist.

Alpha snorts out a laugh as I feel the push and pull of the sinew while I hack at her hand. “Jesus Christ. I should be shocked, but this is just another typical Haven act these days. You can’t surprise me anymore.”

I smirk when the hand detaches with a pop, then stand, gesturing for the offices. Alpha leads as we step over Vulture on our way through and make our way into the room. Alpha stands by the door while I place Crow’s hand on the desk, then rush to the telephone and pick it up.

Alpha widens his eyes. “What are you doing?”

“Righting a wrong,” I tell him, calling the number for thepolicia municipal.

Alpha watches as I speak to the local law enforcement in Spanish, telling them there are young girls at the training facilityhere who need their help and that they’re being held against their will. They were all taken from their homes or sold when they were young, and now is the time for the policia to come and take this place apart and help get these girls back to their families.

Alpha stares at me in awe when I end the call, and I scoff. “What?”

He smirks, shaking his head. “I knew you could speak other languages, but hearing you speak so fluently, I gotta admit, it’s a turn-on.”

I shove his shoulder while walking over to Crow’s filing cabinet, grabbing her severed hand as I go. “Shut up. The police will be here in a few minutes once they get their task squad together. It buys us a little time, but I just need to look for one thing,” I tell him, placing her severed hand on the key sequencer. It scans her fingerprints, the cabinet unlocks, and I open the drawer.

Alpha approaches me as I throw the hand over my shoulder. It drops to the floor with a thud, and I begin rifling through the years of files, searching for my name.

It’s been sixteen years since my father dropped me here.

Sixteen years since I was taken from my family for a reason I have no idea about.

These files hold the truth—my truth—and I’m desperate to find out who Ireallyam.

“What are you looking for?” Alpha questions just as I find the file with my name in big, bold print.

BLUE JAY –HAVEN

Taking a deep breath, I pull the file out of the cabinet and lay it on Crow’s desk. “This is what I am looking for. If I am right, this should tell me everything I need to know.”

The thing is…

… am I ready to find out everything about my past?

CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE

Haven

Alpha places his hand on my back comfortingly as he steps closer. “You wanna bring this back to the clubhouse to go through?”

Shaking my head, my heart hammers against my chest. I flip open the folder, releasing a long exhale. “I can’t wait. I spent the last sixteen years having my memories wiped from me. I need to remember where I came from. Who the hell I am. Hell, Alpha, I don’t even know my real last name anymore.”

He stares at me like he’s shocked. “Wait, it’s not Eleutheria?”

I turn, looking at him with a smirk. “You honestly believed me when I told you that?”

“I did think it was a little, how should I put it…whimsical.”A slow grin forms on his face.

Chuckling, I shrug. “I remember my birth name, just not my surname or anything about my family. I know I had parents, and I recall a younger brother. Other than that, everything’s a blur. Vulture made damn sure I didn’t think about them. Hell, I can’t even remember my own family’s names. It’s been drilled out of me for so long. The shit they put you through in here. The torture you go through when you become a fully-fledged bird… fuck, Alpha! It’s why I had to get Poppy out of here.”

He stares at me, his brows furrowed. “Torture? You mean mental?”

Shaking my head, I flare my nostrils, remembering the pain. “Mental was part of it, but the physical wasmuchworse. When you turn sixteen and you pass all your tests, they send you off for sterilization. Then, your focus can only ever be on The Nest. You can never fall pregnant or be committed to a child rather than tothe cause.”
