“Who was that? What happened to Macca and friends?”

“You just heard some idiots leaving the rodeo. Macca and his mates are kicking on at a pub for his buck’s night, and I wanted to get to bed.”

“Are you safe?” he demanded.

I glanced around. I was safe, I guessed. But for some reason, I just wanted Jet on the phone. “Yeah, just feeling alone.”

“Aww, you miss me.”

“To be fair, I never knew you in Ballydoon. I know you as a text message and a phone call.”

“True. And don’t forget one night in your van.”

I said nothing, allowing myself to remember the highlights of that night.

“If you’d stayed in Ballydoon,” Jet asked with a groan, the water slapping the sides of his bath in the background. “Would you have gone out on a proper date with me?”

I snorted. “What? And miss out on being asked stolen speed dating questions?”

He chuckled. “Maybe. But you didn’t answer my question.”

“I don’t know. I wasn’t up for dating then.”

“And now?”

I shook my head. “Now? Right now I’m lost and more than two thousand kilometres away from you.”

“Fine, here’s another question.” He sighed into the phone. I remembered how his breath felt on my skin as he panted towards his climax.

“Okay,” I whispered. “Ask away.”

“Where do you like to be kissed, other than on the lips?”

I coughed and picked up my pace, recognising a corner shop up ahead. The caravan park was another two streets from here.

“That’s one of Mum’s speed dating questions?”

“Yep, found it a week ago. Been saving this one up.”

I was very aware that Jet was naked on the other end of the phone. Sure, he was having a bath, but that made it worse: he was wet and naked.

“You evading the question, Ari?”

“No,” I said quickly as I turned the corner. I could see the big willow tree I’d parked under in the caravan park in the distance. “I’m just thinking.”

“Want to hear my answer?”

“Yes.”

“Well, Miss Wilde, it’s not the place you’re thinking, although I do like attention down there.” He chuckled, and I heard thepfftof a bottle top. “Bath beer. Been saving this up for tonight. So, I like to be kissed at the top of my leg, the bit which isn’t your hip, drives me insane. It’s …” His voice trailed off in thought. “I’m staring at it right now. Hard to explain.”

“Take a photo,” I breathed, fumbling my van keys in the dark.

“You want me to take a photo of myself naked in the bath?”

“Yes.”

I yanked the door across and leapt inside. Ever since I sent him the photo of my ankle, we’d flirted. Lately, our texts had been more and more explicit and suggestive.
