Chapter 4

Andi

Iwake with a start, breathing heavily and my body throbbing from the dream. It’s always the same one.

Glimpses of the past. Of a night I’ve never forgotten and the shame of that washes over me until the tears once again fall down my cheeks.

Hank would be so ashamed of me. I know he would, which is why I can’t get out of this bed.

I can’t keep living while my husband is buried and gone. The man I swore to love for the rest of my life after he found out what had happened and forgave me for it.

I didn’t deserve forgiveness. I still don’t. Especially since that first day of seeing Gabe once again filling me with all these emotions and feelings that I shouldn’t be having.

Not to mention the questions that have now started to pop up into my mind since Hank passed away.

Do I tell the girls the truth now instead of waiting like Hank and I decided years ago?

Do I now tell Gabe the truth about the girls?

Would he hate us for not tracking him down and letting him know that the night we spent in each other's arms resulted in two of the most beautiful girls a parent could ask for?

Hank never once regretted taking the girls as his own. He jumped into fatherhood like he was made for it.

A few years after the girls were born, we had decided to try to have another child. After about a year of no positives, we went to see a specialist.

I felt so badly that day when the doctor told us we could never have another child because Hank was sterile.

He of course didn’t let it get him down. He looked over at me after the appointment with a smile and said: “That’s why God made sure to give us the girls that night.”

My heart burst with his words and I swore I’d love him forever. I just didn’t realize that forever was going to be cut so short by some asshole with a gun.

“Mom?” I hear Samantha at my door.

“What is it sweetie?” I ask, looking over at her.

“Just wanted to let you know we were going outside to play for a while.”

“Okay. Just be sure you both keep an eye out for each other. Remember there’s bears and other wild animals out here.”

“Come on Sam!” We both hear Skylar yell just before the front door slams. Samantha looks back at me with a wicked grin.

“You mean wild animals besides Sky?” I can't help but to giggle at her reference to her sister as a wild animal.

“Yes, besides her.” I yawn.

“Go back to sleep. We’ll be okay. I’ll keep Sky out of trouble.”

“Thanks baby.” I lay my head back down, closing my eyes as I hear her walk away from my door.

This past week, I’ve read through every file sent to me from both the HellFire MC and Agent Richards.

After looking it all together, it certain paints a fucked up picture of a huge operation going on out in the Chicago area.

The really fucked up part is what I found when I cast a broader search for similar circumstances of missing girls.
