What if I showed her everything?

I could contact Decebal right now, tell him I was coming to get the USB. The one with everything—kept in one place so we would never be found.

But she still had doubts.

She still wanted to run to them—broken as she was. And that pack could never get their hands on the truth of who we were. So I could never give it to her, not before I was absolutely certain she’d let them go.

They hadn’t said anything in their home either, not that would incriminate them more than what we’d just heard.

So instead, I cupped her cheek and pressed my lips to her forehead.

“You are enough for us, just the way you are.”

When we left the library, I held her hand, and I thought she might be squeezing mine just a little too hard. There was a glittering of tears in her downcast eyes.

SHATTER

The straightening iron sizzled as I nudged it on the bathroom counter.

It was the next morning, and I’d been up for hours. I’d burned my ear three times, and still, my hair didnotlook like Roxy’s.

I tapped my fingers on the bathroom counter anxiously.

Why couldn’t I get it right?

It was better, but still thick, and didn’t have that shine to it. With each pass of the iron over my hair, something uncomfortable twisted in my stomach. But it was better than staying curled up in bed, unable to sleep, lingering on it all.All morning, I’d jumped at every sound, afraid Dusk was going to come in and catch me.

I didn’t want to see the‘I told you so’look in his eyes.I’d cried on and off all night, and I didn’t need to be made to feel more pathetic. But even after all this effort, my hair still didn’t look like Roxy’s.

Would it be better, though?

Still, when I hurried into the kitchen in the morning, I’d tied it up in a loose bun so they might not notice. “Going to classes early,” I muttered, grabbing my scent blocker from the bottle Dusk had left on the table and taking it before he could make a fuss.

“You’re leaving?” Umbra’s voice caught me as I hurried to the door.

I glanced back to see he was looking at me, clearly hurt. Oh… Shit. He was fiddling with the new toaster oven he’d ordered yesterday, trying to make me a more interesting breakfast since I still wasn’t eating Dusk’s food.

Dusk’s eyes were narrowed on me, though, and he’d frozen half way through buttering a scone.

“What did you do?” His gaze was fixed on my hair.

I swallowed, fighting the urge to touch it. Okay. So itwasobvious. “N-Nothing.”

He got to his feet, yellow eyes dark. “Go and wash it.”

“No.”

“You aren’t leaving until you undo it.”

“What are you going to do if I don’t?” I demanded. “Drag me into the shower and fuck me until I say sorry?”

Dusk scoffed. “I’d never dick you down when you’ve spent the morning peacocking for your mates.”

My expression tightened, something angry rising in my chest. “Good. Guess I’ve found my solution.” My hand was on the door.

“Shatter!”Dusk’s voice was warning. “We’re not finished with breakfast.”

“I took my pill,” I said, turning the doorknob.
