His scent.
His breath fanned against my lips, and I opened my eyes.
“Nothing is going to change,” he answered without me having to ask the whole question. No, of course I didn’t. He knew me too well.
“You can’t promise that,” I wheezed, and he frowned.
“I sure as fuck can. You’re safe with me. Always. No matter what. Baby, I swear to you?—"
“Baby?”
“Fucking hell.” I lost sight of his eyes and wanted him to open them.
“Have you?” I blurted out a little too loudly, yet I was still surprised he could hear it over the thundering of my heart and the music. “Have you thought about us being more than…” My voice drifted off to nothing, but I needed to be brave.
He was asking me for a reason.
It is time.
“Have you thought of us being more than friends?” I asked as confidently as I could manage.
“Only every day and night since sophomore year,” he confessed, and when his eyes opened and shined with nothing but honesty, I knew he wasn’t lying. My body trembled and my knees shook.
Not with fear or nerves. I quivered with excitement.
“Gem.” There was something in his tone and the way he was looking at me. Something I had seen before but had tried not to think about because I was scared it was wishful thinking on my end. “I think I’ve loved you before I knew what love was.”
Woosh.Just like that, whatever string of doubt I’d been holding, dropped to the ground and shattered at my feet. Without thinking, I rose on the tips of my toes and wrapped my arms around his shoulders. He didn’t stop me to think about what I was doing. No. Aiden and I were completely in sync.
Always have been. Always will be,a voice whispered that wish my heart felt deep down inside. He lifted me up, and I leaned in for my lips to find his. Unfortunately, I bumped his nose with my forehead.
“Oh fuck,” he cursed before he chuckled, and I giggled through the embarrassment I felt. Before I knew it, his mouth found mine, and when we kissed for the first time, it was pure and utter magic.
Like two halves coming together, we fit perfectly. His mouth was firm and soft as his hands held my ass with a tender touch. He carried me like I weighed nothing.
“Gem,” he groaned, and I licked his lip and pulled it into my mouth. Just like I had always wanted to.
Reality was so much better than my daydreams.
“Aiden.” My skin felt hot, pulled tight against my body, and I ached for relief. Relief I knew we’d only find together.
“Room,” he mumbled, setting me on the floor.
“What?” I looked up at him dizzily, and he stopped.
“Unless it’s too fast. Shit, we don’t have to—” I pressed my body against his. I felt a hard ridge press against me, and I looked down and realized what it was. It was him. Aiden was hard. For me. Suddenly, I was invigorated with boldness as I gazed up at him, having to tilt my head back.
“I want to. I’ve been waiting for you,” I confessed, letting him know there had never been anyone.
I’d gone on a couple of dates, but nothing had happened. I hadn’t held anyone’s hand or kissed anyone.Ever.If Aiden wanted to claim all my firsts, I was more than happy with letting him.
“Shit.” He lifted me up like a groom would with his bride. I giggled as he hurried us out of the club, both of us ignoring the people gawking and pointing at us because we only had eyes for one another.
In a blur, we got into a cab, and he growled the name of our hotel before his mouth found mine again, his hands tangled in my hair. And it was glorious. Utter perfection. My lips were swollen, and I was panting for breath by the time our driver reached our hotel and we hurried out after paying the fare.
We both practically ran to the room. Laughter and excitement danced between us. Then suddenly, we were inside the room we had been sharing for the last week. How many times had imagined this very scene?
Both of us rushing inside, slamming the door, leaving the world behind us as the lock was set in place and we were the only ones who existed.
