“Do you think Axel will go for custody of Rose? Or maybe his dad since you guys are still at uni?”

“I have no idea. But over my dead body will I let that happen,” I reply fiercely, my eyes narrowing with determination, my body tense with resolve. “I need to get a lawyer, I know that much, but fuck knows how I’ll afford one.”

She gives me a sympathetic grimace, her brows knitting with worry. “I wish I could help, babe.”

I take a deep breath, my eyes meeting hers. “Don’t be silly. You are helping, you’re my friend. And outside of those three assholes, I never had one of those before. It means the world to me.”

A warm smile tugs at the corners of her lips, and she places a reassuring hand on my shoulder. “Well, I’ll always have your back. You’ve got me fighting in your corner now, and I’m scrappy as fuck when I wanna be. I’ve got you.”

I offer her a grateful nod, my heart heavy with the weight of the world on my shoulders. “Thanks.”

“Now, can we talk about the other thing?” Lou’s expression shifts to concern, and her tone is gentle.

“What other thing?” I inquire, my forehead creasing in confusion.

“Vomiting everything you even look at, thing.”

I shift uncomfortably. “I had a stomach bug.”

Lou gives me a knowing look, her gaze steady. “Babe, I don’t think it was a stomach bug.”

My heart starts racing, and I feel the ground fall away at her suggestion. “No,” I whisper, shaking my head. “No.”

“Are you sure?” Lou presses, her concern deepening.

Am I? I bite my lower lip nervously, my mind racing. “I don’t know. Kaiden told me Axel gave me the shot.”

Lou’s eyes search mine, and she leans in closer. “Did you check?”

I nod, the panic rising within me. “I checked with the campus doctor. It’s on my records.”

“It’s not a hundred percent though, babe, is it?” Lou’s voice is gentle, but her words hang heavily in the air.

“Shit,” I mutter, realising the gravity of the situation and the uncertainty that now lingers in my mind.

Lou’s concern deepens, and she reaches for my hand, squeezing it gently. “We can’t ignore the possibility, Odi. If there’s any chance, we need to know.”

I swallow hard, my throat dry, and my heart pounding in my chest. “But what if the guys find out? I can’t go through another ’who’s the father’ ordeal. I’m scared, Lou.”

Lou’s gaze softens, and she pulls me into a tight embrace. “I get it, babe. I know it’s terrifying, but we can do this discreetly. I’ll get a test for you, and we can do it in private. No one else needs to know unless you want them to.”

Tears well up in my eyes, and I bury my face in her shoulder, finding comfort in her unwavering support. “Thank you, Lou. I don’t know what I’d do without you.”

Lou holds me tightly, her voice a reassuring whisper. “We’ll figure this out together, Odi. Whatever the result, you’ve got a friend who’ll stand by you.”

I nod, my eyes filled with gratitude. “Okay. You’re right. It’s better to know. But…not today, okay? I just can’t today.”

Lou smiles reassuringly, understanding the weight of the situation. “Okay, hun, I understand. But this isn’t going to go away. I’ll go out and get the test later, off campus, and you can take it when you’re ready. But it’ll be there waiting for you the second you want it.”

“Thanks, Lou,” I whisper, feeling the unexpected weight of a friendship I never thought I’d find outside of the trinity.

“No worries. I’m going to go now and let you get some rest. Do you need anything?” Lou’s concern is evident in her voice.

“Besides sleep for a week? No, I’m good.”

“Okay, babe, sleep well. I’ll see you later.”

I nod, and she leaves, flicking the light off as she goes and plunging the room into darkness thanks to her amazing blackout blinds.
