Nothing can happen; the others will be here any minute. If anything, they’re late. And Axel Abbot is never late. Not without a very good reason at least. I should probably be worried, but I can’t bring myself to care. All I can focus on is how much I want the temptress beside me. My home. My everything.

Nothing can happen.

But that doesn’t mean I don’t want it to.

I place my glass on the table, and Odi does the same. Without uttering a word, our eyes lock and just like that, all inhibitions evaporate into thin air as our lips meet in a passionate, hungry kiss. I don’t know how much time has passed but as soon as our mouths meld together, the taste of scotch and desire mingling on our tongues, I know that I’ve waited far too long.

Odi’s body moulds against mine, and the heat radiates from her as our kiss deepens. Time and responsibility slip away, forgotten in the haze of passion and pent-up longing.

Her hands find their way to my hair, tangling in the golden strands as she pulls me closer. I respond with equal fervour, roaming over her curves, memorising every contour. The air between us becomes charged with an electricity that tingles against our skin, intensifying every touch and every stolen breath.

But just as quickly as it began, reality crashes down upon us like a tidal wave. Approaching footsteps outside the door shatters the moment, and we reluctantly pull away from each other, gasping for breath.

“I’m sorry,” I whisper, my voice hoarse with desire and regret. “I didn’t mean for that to happen.”

Odi looks at me, her eyes filled with a mix of longing and confusion. “No, don’t apologise,” she says softly. “I wanted it too. But we can’t do this here, not now.”

She’s right, of course. The purpose of our meeting was to have an honest conversation, to confront the secrets and lies that have been lingering between us for far too long. Getting lost in each other’s arms is a distraction we can’t afford.

We hastily compose ourselves just as the door swings open, revealing Axel and Kaiden standing there with curious expressions on their faces. They take in the scene before them – the fire still crackling, the abandoned glasses of scotch – and exchange knowing glances.

“Did we interrupt something?” Kaiden smirks, a mischievous glint in his eyes.

I clear my throat. “No, nothing like that,” I stammer. “Just lost track of time.”

Odi nods in agreement, her face flushed with a mixture of desire and frustration. We both know that we can’t continue where we left off, at least not right now.

My brothers exchange another glance before deciding to drop the subject—for now. I’m not fooled though, Axel never drops anything, and Kaiden can be like a dog with a bone when he wants something. They join us on the opposite couch, each taking a glass of scotch and settling in. The tension in the air is palpable once more, but this time it isn’t sexual.

This time, it’s the weight of unspoken truths and unresolved conflicts that hangs heavy in the room. We all know why we’re here: it’s time to face our demons, to peel back the layers of deception and address the fractures within our brotherhood.

Kaiden takes a sip of his scotch, his eyes fixed on me as he breaks the silence. “So, who wants to begin?”

“I’ll ask the questions,” Axel snaps. I shake my head. He’s wound so tight. Today must be his idea of hell – coming clean – but I maintain it’s necessary for us to be able to move forward. “Odi, tell us everything that happened with The General.”

Odi takes a deep breath, her gaze shifting to the flickering flames as she gathers her thoughts. The firelight dances across her face, highlighting the lines of worry etched into her features. It’s clear that recounting her encounter with The General is something she has been dreading, but she knows it’s time to reveal the truth.

“It started almost as soon as you left,” she begins slowly, her voice tinged with a mixture of fear and determination. “The General invited Mum and I over for dinner and mum wouldn’t let me out of it.”

As Odi speaks, the room falls deathly silent. Her words hang heavily in the air, filling the space between us with a sense of dread. My stomach is in knots and simultaneously churning.

“Mum got held up at work, and Zie’s mum was out of town. I-it was just the two of us.”

My hands furl into fists. I don’t know if I can listen to this.

“After dinner he made me follow him upstairs. On the landing h-he hit me and I blacked out. When I woke up he was…he had me…”

“Where?” I grind out.

Odi doesn’t look at me.

“Answer him,” Axel snaps with barely contained rage. Odi flinches. Can’t she see his anger isn’t aimed at her?

“Zie’s bedroom. His bed.”

The words hang in the air, heavy with the weight of betrayal and anguish. My heart pounds in my chest, fury coursing through my veins like a raging inferno. The room spins as I try to comprehend the magnitude of what Odi is revealing, but there’s no denying it. The General, the man we once trusted as our mentor and ally, my own fucking father whoknewhow much she means to me, violated Odi in the most despicable way possible. And in my bed. I feel sick.

“I didn’t tell anyone,” she whispers fiercely, her voice barely audible above the crackling fire. “I was scared...scared of what he might do if I revealed the truth. I-it was my first time. He liked that. It made him…possessive.”
