Audrey’s fingers are tracing patterns in the skin on my chest, but she pauses at my question. “Yes. They hurt the people I love. That won’t stand.”

“I might have overreacted a little. You didn’t need to do that.”

“I know but it wasn’t just me. Linc, Harrison, Beck, and Ryker bought in too.”

“They did? Why?”

“Because they hurt Amelia and Xander too, and Ryker.”

My fingers skim over her naked shoulder as I consider her words. “They’re good friends.”

“The best. I don’t know what I’d do without them. I’m lucky.”

“So are they to have you.”

“Oh, I know.”

I smile at her confidence which feels renewed. “So you fired everyone? What now?”

“I’m not sure. I’d like to turn the paper into something I can be proud of and maybe merge it with Kennedy.”

“People will always love gossip. It’s why papers like that sell.”

“I know, and I get that, but I hate what they did to Tia. She could’ve been seriously hurt and there was no consideration for that.”

“Maybe it just needs to be run by someone who gives a shit. Have reporters on staff who are respectful.”

“Maybe. Or maybe I’ll just close it down.” Audrey sits up and I get distracted as the sheet slips, revealing her plump pink nipples. “What happened in L.A?”

I tell her all about my suspicions of corruption and how difficult it is for women to get help in situations like that. “Although I’ve been thinking of giving it up. I want to spend more time with you and Tia now.”

“But they need you.”

“Lorenzo can handle it.”

“But you know the law.”

I laugh. “Believe me, Lorenzo knows the law. It’s what makes him such a good criminal.”

“What if we set up a charity to offer support to these women with confidential advice and guidance and lawyers working pro bono to help free them? We could build on your idea with the app and widen it.”

I nod slowly. “I like the idea but the more people involved, the more chances of a corrupt lawyer or member of staff leaking stuff.”

“We could start small and maybe play around with it. We certainly have the means, and you could head it up rather than being the lone wolf.”

“We could do it together?”

Audrey smiles flirtatiously. “Are you trying to poach me from Kennedy?”

“Never, I know how much your company means to you, but I’d love to have your advice on this.”

“I’d love that, too.”

Audrey leans in for a kiss and then settles her head against my chest. My eyes drift and I’d happily spend every day here with her.

“Hudson?”

“Hmm?”
