“Hmmm…I don’t know…” she said coyly.

One of Xander’s hands slid down to her ass. He didn’t squeeze or slap it, but just by placing it there, it felt as if he was sending a warning, letting her know he would punish her if she kept pushing. “Are you thinking about something Mark said?”

Guess Xander hadn’t heard the conversation, though he’d definitely caught that last bit. This time, she didn’t feel like playing. “Not at all.”

Her honest response was worth the wide smile he gave her in return. “Good.”

“Hey, guys,” Gus said. “I think the bride has hit her limit on shots. I’m going to take her home and pray she doesn’t get sick in the car.”

“Okay,” Gia said. “Macie and Coop are the DDs so I’ll just grab a ride with one of them.”

“I brought my own car,” Xander said. “We’re leaving together, remember?”

“Fine,” she said, pretending to be annoyed.

Xander just chuckled, leaning closer. “Be a good girl and I’ll give you an early Christmas present.”

Fucking hell.

How did he know that tone of voice was her honest-to-God kryptonite?

Then she remembered he wasn’t the only one who’d discovered their newfound powers.

She stepped up on tiptoe, whispering in his ear. “I’ll be good, Daddy.”

Xander growled, the deep, guttural sound ensuring she’d be going home with damp panties.

“We’re leaving now.” Xander helped her put on her coat, then went over to pay the bill while she and Alison said their goodbyes.

The four of them walked out together, she and Xander heading to his car, Gus helping Alison to his truck.

“How drunk are you?” Xander asked as he opened the passenger door and she climbed in.

“I’m not. Drank water the last hour or so. Why?”

Xander gave her a wicked grin. “Because I want you to remember everything I’m going to do to you once we get home.”

Gia squeezed her thighs together, wondering if she could spontaneously come on the spot.

Xander, of course, noticed her reaction. “Buckle up, baby girl.”

Chapter Seven

Xander followed Gia up the stairs to her apartment, his eyes glued to her ass perfectly showcased by her dress. His eyes had nearly popped out of his head when he’d walked into Cruisers earlier and discovered her not only talking to her ex but wearing a wine-colored, long-sleeved velvet dress that hugged her curves to perfection. The square-cut collar was low enough to give him just a peek of her cleavage and the slit in the already-short skirt showcased just how sexy his girl’s legs were.

And while he’d appreciated the view, he hadn’t liked the way Mark was standing a bit too close, all but drooling. Gia had insisted their breakup was a mutual decision, but Xander had come to the conclusion that wasn’t true. He’d seen Mark sneaking glances at Gia during the holiday social. The man had also made his way into Sparks Barbeque at least twice in the last week, and those were just the times Xander knew about because he’d happened to be there.

No. Mark wasn’t happy about the split, and while Xander had only heard Mark suggesting that Gia “think about” something, he’d bet his entire company the man wanted to get back together with her.

Hell would freeze over before Xander let Gia get away.

When they reached the door to her place, Gia stopped to dig in her purse for the key. He’d missed her tonight, the feeling catching him off guard. Xander had never been the type of man overwhelmed by the need to be with his girlfriend twenty-four seven. In fact, he was the opposite, typically very protective of his alone time, preferring space over nonstop togetherness.

That wasn’t true of Gia.

Since the night of the holiday social, they’d only separated whenever Gia went to work. And even then, he’d spent more hours than he cared to admit, sitting at the end of the bar, watching as she waited tables. It was as if someone had placed a rubber band around the two of them and it stretched too taut whenever she wasn’t around.

Tonight, he’d sworn to stay away, to let her enjoy the evening with her girlfriends. Xander tried to convince himself he would have been successful if Alison hadn’t kept drunk texting Gus, driving his poor brother crazy with worry. Alison rarely drank, so as her texts became basically unintelligible, Gus had asked Xander to go with him to Cruisers. Their original plan had been to simply stand at the door, take stock of the situation, and if it was apparent the women were okay, they’d hopefully leave without anyone being the wiser they were there.
