Especially after he dropped Pamela off with his dad for the weekend and confessed that, for once, he was going to an event with a date.

Wes: What’s her last name? Sadie wants to be nosey.

Olin felt his eye twitch at the idea of Wes’s girlfriend looking Meegan up.

Whalen. But all of her accounts are private.

Olin went to Xeni’s account and found a picture of Meegan at Xeni and Mason’s vow renewal. He sent it to the chat.

Tell Sadie this will have to do.

Wes: She’s hot.

Sadie said that it is a suitable photo for her research purposes.

Olin rolled his eyes and checked the time again. They were in no rush. The venue was only a few blocks away and he had no interest in getting there first. He just wanted to get this ruse on the road. All the particulars that had to be ironed out had distracted him from thinking about how beautiful she was. Not that his attraction to her mattered. This was a business deal. Sill, now that it was game day, so to speak, he did want to see her. He glanced at his phone again as if he was willing a text from his assistant Brianna to appear. Instead, a text from his dad popped up. It was a picture of Pamela sleeping at the foot of his dad’s recliner.

She ate all her dinner!

His dad was still hoping for grandchildren, but in the meantime, he had Pam. Just as Olin was about to respond, a text from Brianna popped on the screen.

She’s ready!

Olin let out a slow breath, headed toward the elevators, and went to the tenth floor. He could hear his heart beating in his chest as he walked down the hall toward the room he’d reserved for her and the glam squad. He had no logical reason to be nervous. Maybe he wasn’t cut out for this type of spy work. He reached the room and knocked on the door twice. It opened a second later, just a crack. Brianna poked her head out.

“She looks freaking amazing. Please let me get like two pictures of you guys together.”

“If she says it’s okay.”

“Oh, she’s on board. Come on.” Brianna stepped aside to let Olin in. The room felt stuffed to the gills with people and racks of clothes, but as soon as Olin caught a glimpse of Meegan over by the window, it was like everything fell away. The stylist, Jenna, made a show of fluffing out the bottom of Meegan’s dress and then practically jumped out of the way so Olin could get a proper look. And he was definitely looking.

Brianna had told him Ted, Star, and Jenna were some of the best glam “technicians”—that’s what she’d called them—in the business. He had nothing to compare them to, but he had to agree with her assessment.

“Well, what do you think?” Meegan asked, her voice bright and happy.

Olin couldn’t speak. He was still trying to take it all in. The dress she wore was a deep emerald green, with long puffed sleeves and a flowing skirt that split down the leg to show off her curvaceous thigh. The real star of the show, though, was the low-cut top of the dress, which was somehow hugging her breasts and showing them off at the same time. Her lips were painted red and her hair was swept to the side in these big, soft curls. A delicate gold necklace hung right above her cleavage and matching earrings hung from her ears.

“I think he’s actually speechless,” Olin heard the hair stylist, Ted, say, somewhere way off in the distance.

He blinked and realized he’d stopped in the middle of the room and was just staring. “You look like a princess.” Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Star give Jenna a low five.

“I feel like a princess,” Meegan replied. “Actually, we were just about to toast to how good I look.” Olin looked down as Brianna slid a champagne flute into his hand.

“Oh, uh. Yeah.” He raised his glass as the others followed suit. “To you.”

“To me,” Meegan laughed. “Thank you. And the glam squad of my freaking dreams. Thank you, guys.”

“To us,” Ted chuckled. They all took a quick swig before Brianna snagged his glass back and ushered him across the room so he could join Meegan by the window for some pictures. He stepped into place beside her, careful not to step on her skirt. It felt right to slip an arm around her waist. The light perfume she wore just made the whole experience that much better. She smelled like roses, but it didn’t overwhelm his senses. In fact, he wanted to get closer so he could really take it in.

“Okay, one, two, three,” Brianna said. Olin didn’t smile in pictures, but he was happy to pose for a few photos and then a few more “silly” photos that Meegan and Star had in mind. “Perfect. Let’s get you two out of here.” She handed Meegan a small purse and Olin headed toward the door as she double checked she had everything she needed. After confirming that her things would be moved to the bigger room that Olin had reserved for her to spend the night, they headed down to meet Olin’s driver for the evening.

Olin felt like he couldn’t breathe, even as she stepped to the other side of the elevator.Physical attraction? Check, an annoying voice deep in his gut said. He had to ignore it. This was business.

“Say something,” Meegan said with a smile as they glided smoothly down, floor by floor.

“I don’t know what to say. You look—” the words ‘like a dream come true’ were on the tip of his tongue, but he thought that might be a little too honest for their first full fake date. “You look amazing.”

“Thank you. Look at you!” She motioned up and down the length of his body before giving him two thumbs up. “I do not hate the view.”
