“I know. I’ll think about it. So, you and Olin, huh?”

“Me and Olin.” She couldn’t help but smile.

“Look at you cheesing all hard and shit. I hope you know how much he likes you.”

“Why do you say it like that?”

“He doesn’t like people in general. I’m shocked he even likes me and Michael.”

Meegan couldn’t tell Duke how it really started. The reason for Xeni's introduction. The fact that he had paid her a very large sum to be seen with him. It felt like so much had changed.

“I don’t think it’s that he doesn’t like most people. He doesn’t like being forced to like most people. He just needs… leg room. Him telling me he was autistic up front did help me understand him, though. I think most women he meets are so pushy, he doesn’t feel comfortable being himself or asking for that space.”

Duke smiled as he exhaled. He held the blunt out for Meegan, but she waved him off. It was a pleasant experience, but she was definitely high as fuck.

“He’s treating you right?”

“Uh, yeah. Like, I had to talk myself out of ‘too good to be true’ territory. I’m still a little worried I’m gonna scare him away.” They’d barely scratched the surface of her kinky needs. There was definitely still time for Olin to cut and run.

“Nah. He is unwavering. Once he makes up his mind about something, there needs to be a really good reason for him to change it. I know you, Meegs. You wouldn’t do him dirty.” Just the thought of hurting him made her stomach turn. “The fact that he even took a selfie with you? Trust me, he’s locked in.”

The front door slammed, saving Meegan from going down another ‘what if’ spiral.

Daisy came stomping down the driveway. “I fucking hate Trevor. I’m the one getting divorced and he’s acting like—oh, you have drugs!”

Meegan and Duke both let out a sputtering laugh as Duke surrendered the rest of the joint.

“What’s Trevor acting like?” Duke asked.

Daisy coughed and examined the lit end, like she was surprised weed could do that. “Like his white man opinions matter to me. Anyway, little brother. I need the number of a good lawyer. I’m definitely gonna key Jimmy’s car. You know he asked mom if he could still come over tonight? Definitely keying his car.”

“Meh, that’s just petty revenge. You need something that’ll leave more of an impression. Something that’ll keep him up at night.”

“Like what?”

“Stink bomb.”

With Black Friday related family plans on deck, Meegan couldn’t make a clean break as the party started to wind down. So, she enjoyed her high and hatched plans with her cousins to ruin Jimmy’s life in ways that wouldn’t get them sent to jail. She stuffed her face with the appropriate amount of lumpia and then headed down the street to crash on Cynthia’s couch.

She snuggled under her borrowedDragon Ball Zblanket and finally sent Olin a text.

I have to be up at dawn to shop, but just know that I kinda sorta miss you a lot.

It was sappy, but she didn’t care. She was still a little bit fucked up. It was late, but Olin responded right away.

I also have to be up early.

We have to help my dad get a dog of his own so he can keep talking to a lady.

Meegan let out a soft, very confused laugh in the dark.

What?!

I’ll fill you in soon.

But I miss you more than kinda.
