“I’m about to go to town myself,” Keira said, picking up her menu.

“Thank you guys for indulging me,” Shep said. His hand was still on the back of Claudia’s neck. “There’s no Asian cuisine at all on the mountain.” Olin had to know if the guy was actually in logging. Luckily, Shep turned in his direction and answered the question that was on the tip of his tongue. “I live way up in the mountains, not too far from Tahoe. I try to eat all the food I’m missing out on when I come down here.”

“Ah, okay. Well, I’d like to thank you all for indulgingme, letting me ask all my questions. Order as much as you’d like. I’ve taken care of the bill.”

“Babe?” Meegan said, the shock on her face clear. Olin was more focused on how nice the term of endearment sounded coming from her.

“It was no problem.”

“Thank you, Olin,” Daniel said. “That’s very kind of you.”

After they ordered, Keira seemed to direct the conversation. As the meal went on, he’d learned that Keira was a very nerdy fitness trainer at a high end gym called Melrose Fitness. Claudia was, of course, in fashion. She was technically based in New York, but traveled to see Shep twice a month. It was an unorthodox marriage, but it worked for them. Shep lived in his cabin up north in the mountains where he worked as a photographer for the US Forest Service. He also did not particularly care for people. Olin had a feeling he and Shep would get along just fine.

He had to admit he was impressed with the way Keira kept the conversation moving. He could think of dozens of meetings he could have used her skill in. She got the proper updates from everyone and shared a pretty funny story about a client they had to fire from her gym. She got Olin to talk about moving on from Depot and the political and charity work he was doing now, before she moved on to Meegan, asking about her day at the school. Meegan told them all about her students and one little kid in particular who would not stop biting people. Shep’s suggestion that she bite the kid back had its merits, but Olin didn’t think that would be a great way to keep her job.

“Can you see why we don’t have children?” Claudia said, an eyebrow arching up.

“Look, they’re a lot,” Meegan laughed. “But it’s what they do at this age. Everything is new and tactile. I just gotta convince this kid that this kind of biting is no way to make friends and impress people. What’s hardest is not laughing, ’cause she makes the most deranged face after she does it and it’s kinda funny. The face, not the biting.” Olin made a mental note to ask Meegan how she feels about kids. Olin actually loved kids, but he figured he’d never have them because of the whole “not looking a woman in the eye for the last fifteen years” thing.

“How’s the new arm?” Shep asked Daniel as they split the last of the sesame noodles.

Daniel shrugged and made a little grunting noise. “It’s alright. I’m just so used to my hook. I can’t wire fuses with this yet.”

“What do you do for work?” Olin asked, hoping the answer had something to do with defusing bombs.

“I own a pyrotechnics company, Fire in the Sky. And yes, my hand did get blown off, but that was someone else’s error. Not mine.”

“Oh. Wow,” was all Olin could say.

“It was on a movie set. Luckily we’ve had no injuries since my partner and I opened up shop. I usually use a body-powered prosthetic hook that I’ve had for a while now or I go without it. The orthotics specialist I work with has been working on this model for years and asked me to test it. This is the second gen model. I don’t love it, but hopefully I can give him enough feedback to improve the model for the next person or maybe even a child.”

“Fuck them kids,” Shep muttered. Everyone laughed. Claudia too, even though she lightly whacked him on the arm.

They didn’t rush through dinner exactly, but Olin could tell everyone else at the table seemed to be mindful of the time. Eventually, Keira used a break in the conversation to get to the point of why Olin was included in this dinner.

“Welp. I think I’m gonna go see what they have to offer at the Yogurt Mart. Give the boys a chance to talk,” Keira announced.

Meegan set down her napkin, bottom lip quivering from restrained laughter, no doubt thinking about where they had met and how she almost got herself fucked in the parking lot of a different Yogurt Mart location not too long ago. “Sounds great.”

Claudia stood and wrapped her fingers around the back of Shep’s neck. “Olin, I know you want to talk to the fellas, but please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. I’m only, like, an auxiliary member of The Club and Shep’s been my only Dom. But if you have any newbie thoughts—” She clicked her tongue and did a little finger gun in his direction.

“I will, thank you.”

Meegan leaned over and kissed him on the cheek. “We’ll just be across the mall.”

“I’ll let you know when we’re done.”

“Okay.”

Once the ladies were gone, Daniel got down to business. “So Olin. I’d just like to say that I know this is no small thing for Meegan and I know this must, at the very least, be strange for you.”

“It is, but she’s been great at getting me to this point. I see why she wanted me to speak to you. Both of you. She was concerned she couldn’t properly educate me from her perspective,” Olin replied.

“Understandable. Before we start, I’m asking you for consent for this conversation, for a couple of reasons. I want to make sure you are comfortable talking about sexual subject matter with us in this setting. Also, because some people get off just talking about erotic power exchange and sometimes they want to manipulate such conversations for their own pleasure. I want to be sure all parties are on the same page and in agreement when even just talking, texting, or emailing about it.”

Olin nodded. “I appreciate the explanation and, yes, I would like to talk to you both about the ins and outs of BDSM and your previous interactions with Meegan, if you’re comfortable with that. I might have more questions as we go, too. My previous sexual experience is pretty limited, so there’s not much to share there.”

“You’d be surprised. I discovered my love of rope play through Boy Scouts. Nothing illegal with any Scout leaders. I was just a freaky kid. A lot of non-sexual experiences shape our sexual desires. The mind is pretty complicated.”
